Outlaw guns, and only outlaws will have them. Or my favorite. Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
edit: There was a story the same day regarding a 25 year old man in Colorado, who killed his father's girlfriend (a math professor) and then went to his dad's college (I don't remember what his dad taught), and killed him with a compound bow. After that, he took his own life by stabbing himself to death. No gun used, 3 deaths. Guns had nothing to do with it. I don't hear anyone screaming to outlaw compound bows, or knives.
Got her disassembled, cleaned and working strong. No leaky no more. Normally the H's are rustbuckets from the midwest/east. You've been keepin' this 'un dry.
Wow! You have workbench-top space! Most things around here get done nowadays either on my tailgate or a glass-top patio table in the back yard. Both are dependent on good weather and daylight! Real estate on my shop benches has long-ago disappeared under the junk (uhhh... "spare parts").
I suspected that packing failure when I got a fuel leak every time the valve was opened, thus I had it on-hand to install (someday.... someday....). Do you know if the pricker crank also has packing? Was that all that was wrong with the 220?
I was pretty sure that the 220's tank was pretty clean, but the 228's may not be so. That's the one whose check valve I suspect. That tank crud may be what's wrong with that valve. At the same time, it might be the sealing surface on the font's fill spout or the cap gasket, but I haven't seen any evidence of fuel seepage around it. At any rate, it won't hold pump pressure, and the flame eventually dies out over about ten minutes or so, and is seems that the only thing left is the check valve. It was last fired-up a few days ago to help with describing the symptoms.
So the 220's back on-line? Whoo-Rah! I'd bet it hasn't fired in at least five years. I had a pretty-good idea what I had to do to that one, but never got that Round Tuit!
What else are you working on out there? I see fresh paint on a font. Whose 220C? Is a C-font steel or brass?

Probably does, but I've never opened that side up on an H. Didn't see or hear any leaks there.

Yes, ran great after that.

Clean?, sheez, that's an understatement; I was temped to climb in an have a meal off that tank floor.

Agree, both cap gaskets look great. I'll start her up and see if I can replicate the issue.

When I pumped it up, there was some back pressure which usually means a stuck ball valve - or gooey anyway - we'll see.

Thats the one I got from Steve; my first 220C brass font; 1945 very cool, was very tempted to leave it unpainted.
Hmm, maybe we need a thread devoted to white gas, naptha, coleman fuel stoves, lanterns, heaters, irons, and ...
