Holley 4180 really dumb question

Does gas drip in the secondary ports, or does it spray? I just took my carb off, cleaned out the needle and made sure it all was free, put it back and its still just dripping rapidly while the truck runs (roughly)...very rough. And when I try to adjust the level I can't get it to stop draining fast out the hole on the side. Seems the needle/seat is hung up?

Your float adjustment is definately off. Note that you adjust the level by turning the hex nut (not the screw on top) the screw is to lock the setting/nut. Loosen the screw then with a wrench turn the nut clockwise (to lower fuel level)

Yeah, watched some Youtube videos and it's def. a problem. Should be a nice spray. And I know how to adjust the float-but it's not helping. Must be the needle is hung up. It's entirely clean when I take it apart and the carb was rebuilt a year ago so the float is fine...

There shouldn't be any fuel coming from the secondary boosters without a heavy load on the engine. Is the metering plate tight?

There ya go...at idle, it's drizzling fast. Will re-tear it down tonight and see what's up...the needle seemed free to move, and the float as I mentioned, was all new a year ago with a kit...

One thing I didn't check-there's a primary nozzle, is there a secondary?

FYI the fuel is dripping from the 2 things in the center of the carb throat-forget what those are called...the round things that look like this O=

So this is nuts. Gas is spouting out the top of the secondary vent hole. I'd taken the bowl out and cleaned the needle and everything checks out. No adjustment stops the spouting gas...wild.

Could be a sunk float, bad needle and seat, or fuel pressure way too high.

This is not making any sense, so let's try this.......the secondarys you refer to, the back of the carb near the firewall or primary towards the front? Also, the 4180 float adjustment has a locknut and the level is set by turning the screw.

Yep, secondaries by firewall. I will put what I believe is a fuel pressure regulator back on tomorrow and try. It was on the truck when I got it and nobody knew what it was and I had issues that I thought were caused by it...eventually I rebuilt the carb and it ran fine. Until 2 days ago, it was fine. So, without actually knowing what psi I'm supposed to have, and what I have, I'm blind. So putting this thing back in, maybe that'll isolate out if pressure is too high...and yes, floats can be adjusted on the 4180 easily, needles can be replaced also, or cleaned, just by turning them back out. I will repost tomorrow after I test.

Well I ended up not putting it back in. Needle was gunked up, and I put a clear inline gas filter under the driver seat gas line so I can monitor what crud is coming out of the gas tank. I suspect something got into the needle, 2 cleanings couldn't free the plunger totally...Gonna test tomorrow.
