Setting up Holley 500 CFM
1. When setting the float, which way do you turn the float screw to bring the float up or down?
2. Is my assumption correct that bringing the float up raises the fuel level in the fuel bowl and bringing the float level down lowers the level?
3. I have fuel spilling out of the very top air thing (the thing that looks like a tube sticking up out of the top of the carb, near the 'plates') when it runs.. could this be a float problem or perhaps a mixture problem? (too much gas).. either way, there is alot of gas dumping into the motor and it smells like it's running super rich..
Many thanks!!
1) remove the needle and seat. ( just loosen the screw and back the nut all of the way out to remove it.
2) Look at the small pointed area in the needle valve. It may have a small piece of rubber fuel line or something in it. Blow it out real good.
3) Put the needle valve back into the carb. Using just the adjusting nut (not the locking screw), turn it almost all of the way down until it is just out of the bowl enough that the nut will still turn it.
4) Put the locking screw back in. Kust snug it down a bit.
5) Remove the sight screw in the side of the bowl.
6) Start the truck and let it run for a second.
7) Just loosen the locking screw enough that you can back up the adjusting nut. IT WILL LEAK A LITTLE GAS< WATCH FOR FUEL SPRAY!
8) Raise the float (turn the nut counterclockwise) until the fuel level is just below the sight plug. It should slosh out if you rock the truck a bit.
9) Reinstall the sight plug screw and hold the adjusting nut and tighten the locking screw on the needle valve and you will be good to go.
10) Enjoy your truck.
