BIGBOOST is a scam -boost test- VID

so i decided to jump on the scam wagon and give this a shot, bought a boost gauge just to see what my stock boost is and found a stop sign, spooled up and let off the brake and recorded the boost gauge to see what psi it will max out at. so in stock form im seeing 16-17psi went from 0-60 in about 13 seconds

then i installed this fancy shmancy BIGBOOST that supposed to give you more boost, more HP and better MPG and i did the same test from the same stop sign, in the same manner, and here are the results to that, 0-60 results actually seem a little slower, but maybe i let off the gas dont remember.

I guess I can't be too sympathetic in this case. If your filter restriction gauge isn't being "pulled down" when using your stock filter box and paper filter, what makes you think that adding a different filter housing (or lack thereof in this case) will make ANY difference at all?

See my signature. This is why I loathe the automotive aftermarket. Don't feel too bad though, we've all been "taken" at some point.

That's actually his ABS light, not the Check Engine light.
The Check Engine is on the far left by the Fuel Gauge.
(just sayin...)

No prob,
There were 2 style's of gauge clusters - forget what year they started changing.
But, just thought I'd point that out so the CEL wasn't a focal point...

As to what Cleatus mentioned - i'd be curious if you didn't have some other leaks somewhere
1) Stock up pipes?
2) have you done a pressure test of your system?
3) loose bolts at the back of your plenum
etc...
Not trying to argue, but may be worth while to check all this before trying to add something - and then blaming it when it can't do what it's supposed to due to other faults...

Do you have a tuner on your truck? If not, then you most likely won't see any higher boost levels with just this BIGBOOST item installed. Unless I'm mistaken, the BIGBOOST (or similar items) simply set a cap on the pressure the MAP sensor will see, preventing the truck from defueling when it hits about 22psi. In stock tune, these trucks rarely see north of 20psi, so you may not see any more boost without a tuner (assuming you aren't running one already). Just a thought.

That's an excellent point!

Oh and BTW, there is no product on the market that will give you more Boost, HP and MPG. Sure, there are plenty that will increase boost and HP, however, as soon as those increase, so does the weight of your right foot. At that point, you need to rearrange the letters to GPM.

so 16,17 psi is a little to low for a stock set up? (no i dont have a tune at the moment)

i do want to go through all of the pipes etc. In order to do correct pressure test you basically plug up some holes and pump up the pipes to 20-30psi and listen to leaks?

whats a plenum?

Slowing things down a bit:

If your truck is bone stock, your boost is pretty close to what it should be. Nice tire scratch, was that a corner?

Testing for leaks should be done at 10-15 PSI (search "boost leak detector") because you're going to have air pushing backwards through the Crank Case Ventilation (CCV). You'll hear hissing all over the place, so you need to use a spray bottle with soapy water (I used Simple Green - it degreases while I'm at it) on everything boost related (not the exhaust side). I had a leak in my plenums, so I replaced them with fancy ones. If you want to see where the plenums are, click the plenum link in my signature. Follow all the pipes and locate every connection - almost every connection has a boot.

Yep, pretty much as Tugly pointed out, do the search he quoted, and you'll get a few threads on what to do.

The Plenum is where the intake manifold connects via the boot to the head of the engine. Again, as Tugly pointed out in his sig, it's the black plate, with the blue towel in it.
Those (factory) rear bolts have been known to loosen themselves, creating pressure leak.

thank you, will look into this during cleaning etc... i spooled up the boost and it was a staight take off, takes a little to spool but it can get rear tires spinning a little
