Are you talking the internals or a new whole cooler? If you can get just the internals that use an extra row of fins I'd go that route unless you can get the whole cooler that has the "upgraded" internals.
Where are you getting the idea the oil cooler can be taken apart and the internal fins replaced?
It's a solid unit and everything is stacked together, think of pancakes with alternating flavors... oil-coolant-oil-coolant etc

See that's what the hell I was wondering. I read on a couple of sites people saying something about "rebuilding" the oil coolers but I had no idea how the hell you take it apart. lol
Thanks for the heads-up on the updated Motorcraft cooler Josh.
I installed the DFuser coolant filter kit two nights ago. Love it. Fit perfectly and looks very nice. Also, the shut-off valves came in yellow and match my truck!
At this point I'm gonna let the coolant filter do its job for a while and clean the system. After a few filter changes I'm gonna replace the oil cooler, delete the EGR/cooler, and install ARP head studs with Motorcraft headgaskets. That way everything going in will have fresh and clean coolant to deal with and I shouldn't have any cooling system issues afterwards.
