hydrolocked

My motor would not turn over this morning. I'm missing about three or four gallons of water out of my water injection system and the oil on the dipstick is a inch or so higher. Like an idiot I kept trying to turn it over with my powerful Denso starter and XS powerful batteries thinking that the starter was just stuck. My nephew said I most likely bent the rods.

Ok so maybe mine isn't so bad. That sucks. Pull the gp's clear it out and start it then go from there.

My nephew said to pull the injectors and turn it over my hand. If i just pull the glow plugs can I use a mitty vac to get most of it then turn it over my hand before I use the starter?

Pull the GPS and unhook the harnesses.

use the mighty vac if you can then turn it over.

Hopefully you didn't bend a rod.

I've heard guys say that if you hydrolock and let it sit, the pressure will push the fluid by the rings.

Luckily water will flow easier than oil, so you shouldn't have to much of an issue.
I doubt you bent a rod if its just water in the cylinders.

Thankfully water can take some compression.

Where are you at glenn?

I'd drop that oil if there is water in there before I did that.

Effing water system, that sucks!

If it has not tried to fire a cylinder and is just locked and wont turn over your rods are probably fine, the starter won't have enough umph to bend the rods.

Drain the oil and remove the gp's like the others have said and get the water out of the cylinders.

I would also try to get the gp's back in and started as soon as you can to keep rust away.

Hope it is ok , I'm sure it will be.

Well your list of things to do just got a little longer. Hope all is well in the end, at least you're not on the road. Good luck Glenn!

I THINK there have been some reports of these starters bending the rods in a hydrolock situation.. Like when the cylinders are full of oil after and injector swap. Water and oil are two different things though. Let's hope that it's ok.

Glenn, did the engine turn at all when you hit the key?? Did the pump on the water injection turn on for some reason? What the heck happened to cause the water injection to fill this thing with water? I'm kind of worried now.

Good luck Glenn: whats that saying (out of the frying pan and into the fire)
When I did my injectors I hydro-locked, just tried to turn it over once and thought oh **** and then it came to me what happened. I was lucky though
When you get as much water out as you can consider spraying something like WD 40 in the cylinders, I think it dissipates moisture then I thinki I would put some good light weight oil in the cylinders (like rislone) and turn it over. Maby drain the oil first IDK just thinking about not having to change the oil 2 times, but maybe that would be the least of your problem, as I said GOOD LUCK.

As far as what to do, I think it's been gone over pretty well. Drain the oil, suck the water out of the cylinders with a vacuum pump of some sort via the glow plug holes, and probably put a couple gallons of oil back in it and drain it again, just to get anything else out. Putting some kind of oil into the cylinders might not be a bad idea either to make sure the cylinder walls are lubed up a little, then suck the remaining oil back out of the cylinders. Spin it by hand a few revolutions, then crank it with the starter without the glowplugs in it and without the injectors plugged in.. Put it back together, fill it with oil, and hope for the best.

Yikes!

If it were me I would

edited: I would do what these guys have said and keep my own mouth shut instead of giving you a half a$$ed answer (if it were me).

I doubt as well that the Denso starter would be enough to bend a rod, even with the XSP batteries.

Good luck man. I bet that's about enough to make you mess your shorts.

Here I go thinking again, I'll try not to hurt myself
Nate, #1 drain water and oil, suck out cylinders, refill oil then turn over. If not done this way wouldn't it be likely to pump water into the hpop system
I am just going away now enough damage control for me.

No, that's a good point Rich. In case there would happen to be water past the rings and into the oil pan. Good call.
