So, Joe is here, as he always is, bashing what he feels was the cause of the early demise of his motor, cant be Joes fault, has to be DP's.. Now you know Joes story.

This may not be EXACT in story, but it is close enough for you to know that his opinion is most likely way further biased then most.

Now, If you wish to really ask about the different tuners, Might I suggest you watch the signature lines, send a PM, ask them what they know, might know, could know, or even if they jumped on a bandwagon 10 years ago (because it was popular at the time) and see what people think, one on one.

I have met a couple of the "tuners" out there, the two I have met, I would trust, the funny thing about it, the two I have met, say nothing bad about the other, and actually spend a little time passing a bit of complamints to each other, it is only a forum I think you will get this much drama out of a Tuner question.

To the person who asked about tuners for his towing vehical, and not wanting much more, Look into the Hypertech, It was the ONLY tuner at the time that promised you could tow ANYTHING at the 100hp setting with out gages. It was a plug and play ( sorry, a plug, wait 15 mins, then play), and I never regretted that purchase. I ran it from 550 miles, to 110,000 before I went into the Tuners.

I am going back to my beer.

I do want to say this, JOE is Very Bright when it comes to these trucks, and I dont wish to take from him whatsoever in his knowledge, I just feel he is a bit bitter..

I wont go posting tuning maps showing over 55* of timing on the super 80e tune...

I wont go find the countless guys who popped motors that should have never popped... running one thing in common...

I wont go post up the cracks in the pistons from advanced timing...

I will tell you I ran one tuner that was louder then the others. Asked about that tuning and was told it was the best in the industry and to just "trust me"... About 15k later the motor was out...

Now I have LARGER injectors with a LARGER turbo and a different tuner... 52k later... no issues.

Maybe said tuner has fixed said issues... Maybe not. Knowing what I know now, I can not, will not ever have a good word to say about said tuner.

I have run EVERY tuner out there save one... and there is only one that will never be in my truck again.

If you would like to see the tuning maps let me know...

I remember all the threads, and it seems to me I recall for every sheet you had, there was a counter arguement, I believe at one time someone even said the information you were providing came from another Tuner. They were posting it on their site, if I recall. Joe, I go back to the statement I made at the bottom of my last post, I believe you to be VERY KNOWLEDGABLE, but it wasnt your info you were sharing, it was a cut and paste info. ( Which this is a very easy thing do, being as we are on the internet, and we can find what ever we want to be true, hell, I recently found pictures of Kennedy, he isnt really aging well, even for a dead guy)

So, it was not documentation that someone here took, it was another tuner who was putting up that information, and I am sorry, I do not know their ethics well enough to believe everything they posted.

You say countless motors blown, Joe, I believe only 2 people on this site ever pointed their fingers at DP for a blown motor, and I havent seen Kenny in a while. I believe he is making to much horsepower to play with us anymore.

Joe, I consider you to be a person I would like to raise a beer with (as most on this site). But Sir, you have beaten this horse for way to long, and really wish I had the time to get a beer with ya, and give you a ride in my DP tuned truck, so you could now hear the difference. And I would really Love if somehow, some one would be there to capture all the data you had posted (3years back) so maybe we could end this.

I am not saying that it would change the My Tunner is better then your tunner bit, it would just have a little more info provided by the people on this site,

Now, off to work..I think the last 6 beers of last night may have a negative effect on my performance today..first 6.. no problem.

I've been thinking a lot about this "one tune fits all". CSIPSD, do you have a stock-equipped daily driver? If you don't have stock for daily driving, when was the last time you owned one? Your signature shows a lot of stuff to make power without leaning on the tune and stuff to cool things down when you get on it. Your advice fits your truck.

If somebody writes a tune that doesn't heat anything up or make smoke, that is a very safe strategy and it stays away from straining anything so you can use it all the live-long day. You already know that pushing the limits pushes the coal and the EGTs. Some people want to push the limit, and DP is one of many other tuners that will sell what the people ask for, but it's up to the owners to back out of it when the exhaust is glowing. I have the 60e tune and it does not...
  • smoke
  • heat up the EGTs, even on steep grade
  • have a touchy throttle
  • have a death rattle (nor do any of my other 7 running tunes)
My 60e does have a significant power gain and my best MPGs. I never saw any mention of MPGs in CSIPSDs posts. CSIPSD says "Give me a tune I can use for EVERYTHING" and he owns a tuner with a selector, not a PCM flash.

CSIPSD is very knowledgeable on may things, he has plenty of reps for is input (some from me), and I value his opinion on many topics - including some of what he says about tuners. CSIPSD said "I have run EVERY tuner out there save one... and there is only one that will never be in my truck again" and this does not give him a good working comparison of the current DP tunes. I also noticed short and to-the-point advice on every topic except tuners... indicating a strong bias, based on a bad experience (root cause unknown) while he happened to have a DP-tuned truck.

CSIPSD was quick to attempt to shut down my input when he said "My only issue with you and how you post on the subject is you do not have the experience to base it off of." I reviewed my input and I don't see where I offered up much of anything on other tuners and I shared what I do know from personal experience by analyzing my truck performance and my tunes with AE in logging mode. One could construe his remark as really saying "Shut up and let me do the talking" - or not.

Why do I take the time to say all of this? To balance the input for the readers who's money and truck is at stake. After all, this was a request for input on tuners waaay at the top of the thread.
