Superchips tuner question

I bought my truck back in March, (99 F250 SD CC 7.3 PSD Auto Trans) the guy I bought it from included a Superchips Model 1715 tuner with towing and off-road settings. Having never used a tuner before, I'm looking for opinions and tips on using this.

Thanks!!

Glenn

Here's what I'd do: Remove SC tuner, set on desk, and use as paperweight.

Then look at the custom tuners out there and pick one of them. I run Tony Wildman's tunes and couldn't be happier...

Hey Glenn, I'd do like others have stated above. The superchip will wake up the powerstroke but not like a custom chip would.

Cool! Thanks for the quick answers! I guess it will stay in the box while I look into newer tuners.

Give Jody a call at DP-TUNER, and they are the sponser of our forum. You can do as I did with the superchip, use it as a paper weight till you need to read codes. I gave my superchip to a poor soul on here the other day.

Whats so Bad about Superchips? I ran a superchip on my old truck and never had a problem work really well only down fault I seen was lack of being able to change tunes on the fly.

Run it for a week and then compare it with the dp-tuner tunes and you will see a huge difference. Think about it this way.

1. Get your age and race and try make a suit for you

2. Take some measurements and make a suit

3. Have a tailor measure you out, make the suit and make any last minute alterations

Scenario 1 is like Superchips. Scenario 2 is like what you get with a dp-tuner tune after you tell him your mods. Scenario 3 is Live Tuning where he drives the truck and makes alterations till it is dialed in.

If it is new in the box, Fleabay it and use the proceeds to buy a better tuner.

Agreed

Nothing bad at all about the Superchip. I ran one for 4 years before I found FTE. I now have a few more mods and can tell you there is a huge difference between the two chips. The Superchip is an off the shelf tuner, which means, you can use that tuner in any truck from '99 to '03. The DP-TUNER is made specific for your truck and mods. The only truck that can run my chip is a truck that has the same PCM code and mods just like I have.

And there will be another guy out there that will buy it if he sells it that is in the same boat as you were in.

Ha, thats right. But if he has the Superchip, like said, he can install it and have a bit more power.

Just plug it in and follow the instructions. Don't tow anything in the performance tune.
