Well we're coming to the end of our near 3 week trek across some amazing parts of this country.
Sitting in the Black Hills (Hill City) SD right now...gonna pull over to the Badlands tomorrow and see the Badlands and the obligatory visit to Wall Drug...then the following two days well pull back to Fort Wayne.
I'll be back in your neck of the woods on Monday the 6th...
I got to meet 4 fellow FTE'rs while on this trip.
Sailor_Roy and ExxWhy in Yellowstone and cowboywannabe and RushmoreX last night here in Hill City...it was nice to be able to meet these folks while traveling!
Finally got most of our supplies together to start tying some flies. Here's a couple I tied last night and today. They are both Elk Hair Emergers, dry flies that your fish on top of the water. The first one is a #12 hook, the second is a #18 hook. The #18 hook is shorter in length than the diameter of a dime.
I've found that the best reason to meet other FTE'rs is the impression it invariably makes on Mama. She gets to see the value of the time you supposedly "waste" on here.
After meeting the local guys and their wives at the annual SoCal picnic GTG, and then having the warmest welcome EVER in Albany, OR a couple of years ago that was hosted by MillerOutDoors and his wife Karen, my wife knows that you guys are really family, and not "just some guys in cyberspace".

Those are some sexy flies.
Wish I had the patience to do that.
Goodonya

I thought it would be a lot harder than it is. There are obviously some much more intricate flies out there, but there are a bunch of simple ones you can start with the get the hang of it. The hardest part on the small ones is not pulling too hard on the thread and breaking it, especially when you are at the end...
The wife and I actually went fishing on the Upper Santa Ana River just north of Seven Oaks bridge on Sat. Had a blast, caught a couple little rainbows and got a few other hits. I was pleased for our first trip out by ourselves and for such a small stream.
Noticed the username change. That'll be less confusing.
Barstool racing looks like fun, in a brain bruising, skull crushing, multiple contusion kind of way.
thanks bill! when i joined back n '06 i was not really on any forms to speak of and had no clue of a good screen name, i had just bought my first truck a 94 ford ranger. as i got more active on forms i came up with the name i have now, which ties into my other hobby of amateur radio.
since then ive sold the '94 ranger (regret) bought a '08 ford ranger it got totaled almost 2yrs ago by some jack wagon eating his french fries from wendys and not watching the road. i got T boned and did a 180* in the street going about 50mph.... i had just installed a 6" lift kit and was lucky enough to keep all 4 tires on the ground.
said screw it i like to tow things, so time for a full size truck. i got my current truck after 8 months of searching from Bakersfield to the Mexican border and the ocean to Arizona. got the 7.3L diesel and have been off and running ever since.
and at some point in this time frame i got tired of the kids on some forms and got away from being active, now im over here in the superduty sections mostly and the adults with kid antics some times are easier to deal with.... haha
kinda a shock when i went into 4Wheel parts and asked what are my lift kit choices for the superduty and the guy said basicaly unlimited lol when 10 months prior i asked what my choices for a ford ranger lift kits were and got about 5 choices haha so that's my story!
as far as the barstool goes i started that in '04 i think. looked at about 500 pictures of different ones and then got my ruler and pen out and drew mine up on paper. started the chassis in welding school, then got busy with life and keeping a job in the crummy economy. in '09 i was doing alright, bought a new truck and dropped some bills into the barstool and got it to its current shape today.
its been in a running test phase for 2.5yrs now... wrecked once (hit curb at 35mph) and has had 2 sets of tires so far.
