It was a dodge charger. That would have been a really good movie if those would have been american cars, kinda like American Graffiti. I hate ricers too. I think I hate most of the punk owners that have stereos rattling MY windows, doing the detroit lean, with a look on there face that they could take on the world. I see an awful lot of these things in highschool parking lots. I wonder how they pay for them. I drove a rusted out 72 chevy and could barely afford gas.Bout the only good thing is the little bimbos you see riding shotgun.
The mustang was almost completley stock, they didn't have an exhaust on the car actually. All they did was put in a lightning supercharger pulley and a cold air intake. I mentioned the exhaust because w/o it, it's barely in the 11s, around 11.95.
Like I sid the guy sittin next to me on the left has an 03, itis stock right now and runs 12s our friends who have worked on theirs are running between 11s and 9.8 was the fastst run by one on tuesday night in memphis, he has done a little more than the chip/pulley exhaust, I think he has a 50 shot of nitrous and one more rather small mod, those things have MAJOR potential. cost alot to get it, but not alot to make it fast.
Hey Million: 2" is ok. Am I the only one admitting to people putting these god awful 3-4" tips on their stangs? I like stangs but these are disgusting.
And about the Civic EX: If it really had a vtec controller then he had a swapped in engine (probably a 1.8L B18C1) if it was not a ex and was an si then his hp is around 160ish stock (depending on year) and with those mods probably somewhere around 180 flywheel hp.
Keep in mind you need to rev it to 8000rpms to get that, and also keep in mind those cars make no power below 2000rpms. my integra with 17" rims had to launch at 2200rpms or stall. ;/
The thing with the original pre ricer import modders were that they had the knowledge to cut/hack and install a new engine. They bought 80's civics for next to nothing (literally) and had 1500LB (gutted weight of a 87civic w/stock engine) and were swapping in turbo'd built 4cyl engines making 300-400whp.
Now, I dont like FWD anymore then the rest of you but that is frigging fast!!!!
I am not sure where the whole concept evolved into coffee cans and stickers though ;/
Some of the cars handle very nice but the nice cars vs crap is about 1:100 ratio.
For example if you took my old car, put on a full coilover suspension (1700$USD) added a nice set of volk rims with good rubber (2000USD for rims + 750$USD for tires) installed a turbo on a seriously built crvtech (3000$USD turbo kit w/intercooler + 6500$USD for a decent crvtec build) you'd have a very very very fast car that handled beyond your wildest dreams.
However the # of those are about 1:5000.
And the one thing I hate more then anything, is all the body kits are plastic
I want CHROME! 1950's chrome, not big pimpin bling bling navigator 24" chrome :P
This is really interesting. I guess I underestimated the potential of the Cobra engine. I figured that SVT would have most everything that could be done to that engine already done so there'd not be much more you could mod. My bad!
I agree with yall on how disgusting some of the ricers are but where I live they aren't a problem really. I'll hear one of those weedeaters buzzing around sometimes but all I think is "I sound a LOT better than THAT!"
Nonetheless, some of the ricers can really go as I was showing but I do agree with you about V8 vs. I-4. There's really no comparison between the two. They both have their proper applications.
Let me ask you something I just thought about. What kind of performance would you get from a 2.0 or 2.5 liter V8 vs. a I-4?
A V-8 that small would have pistons the size of your thumb. Valves even smaller. It would sound really cool because its a V-8. I remember seeing a guy on TV one time that built model cars just like the model airplanes with the little *** .049 engines. He built little V-8s and they sounded really neat.
I LOVE ricers and I LOVE fast and the furious! You know why, cause all those little idiots come to my shop and buy <!--- Admin note: posted "*****" --> stuff that I wouldnt put on a tonka truck but make a hella load of money off them. If you guys were smart youd buy stock in NOS!
Well, the reason that SVT put something out with alot of potential is they can only put out a 400 hp sports car wiithout major liability, if they put out 405 instead of 395 the price of the car would jump dramamtically becasue of liability they can get away with it in a lightning because it is still a pickup, and laws are more leniant on pickup power and emisions.
as for the same size V-8 and I-4, I think the 8 will have more torque, but the 4 will have a higher RPM and will rev quicker, less moving parts, less circumferance around pistons on the block, and less bearings and rods, i.e weight to throw around. it is possible the 4 would have higher numbers for torque also becasue the torque the eight would suck up with the more moving parts.
however, the 8 might put out more numbers, or just last longer bacause of the shear size that the I-4 pistons will have to be and how long the stroke will have to be. That large surface area and longer stroke can cause serious problems also....who knows some one own a machine shop and watnt a project. I am really basing these beliefs on the differance between similar sized 8 and 6s i.e. 4.2 V6 and 4.6 V8, now much of a size differance, but the 8 puts out signifigantly more torque than the cubes would suggest., and also has alot more potential than the 6 than the cubes alone allow IMHO
I haven't read the whole thread (YET), but to anyone spouting off about AWD being the 'performance top of the line'. You're kidding. AWD is just something that'll allow cars with little to no torque, get up and go faster. Even the Japanese know you don't put AWD in a performance car. The Honda S2000? RWD. Any car built for performance (Besides that Acura NSX or whatever) is RWD. BMW's, Vipers, Mustangs, Etc.
