FWD is just stupid for a race car, when you accelerate all the weight comes off the front tires and onto the back. That and the weight ratio.

Lately, I've found myself getting a tad more interested in....ricers?.....tuners? I'm not sure why, but something is starting to appeal to me. I've been thinking about buying one actually - though I've been trying to figure out if I could get it to sound nice and deep like my truck, rather than loud and buzzy. Yes, I'm not quite sure why I've been considering it. Something like a '94 Civic, with a tiny little stock spoiler and with some power, minus the huge grapefruit launcher. Not quite sure why - though I'd still take a beautiful '73 Firebird SD455 4-Speed Hurst shifter over a rice-rocket anyday.

Oh yeah, another thing - I was cruising around this morning (about 3AM) ) with my girlfriend and there was about 2" of snow on the ground - obviously I had my Bronco in 4x4 and I said to my girlfriend - "I'd like to see a rice-rocket do this!", heh heh.
I think about all the crap my truck gets me out of often that a ricer couldn't (To talk myself out of it), such as when I needed to turn around so I had to end up driving up on the sidewalk/grass and turn around. Or like on Prom night when there were so many cars parked on the road I couldn't get through - I had to cross a baseball field to be able to leave

Acura NSX: MRWD. True Road car. ie; Ferrari/Lamborghini all use same technology. I think Ford GT does as well? Mid engine rear wheel drive provides optimal weight ratio for a road car.

2" of snow? I drove my slammed integra through a snow storm last year. How? Not fun. Not fun at all. the worst part wasn't driving though (not for me...didn't know FWD cars can drift did you!!!! Oh ya!!) The worst part was the seating position of a sports car, that my pants would be soaked right up to my calfs from lying in the water on my mat. In my truck my right pant leg gets a little wet and the left stays perfectly dry.

MY generation didn't have a care in the world - and I personally liked the hell out of it...

Perhaps it's time we got off their backs and picked something else to (female dog) about. I'm sure people are hot about the noise my truck makes - but hey! They paid too much for what they drive in my opinion.

If cracker boxes are all some of these kids can afford, then that's what they will buy. I was a step back from all of that - I realised at a point that the only way I could have what I personally wanted was to build it myself...

Although now I'm the better off - who is to say that the innovation potential in all of this is a bad thing. Although -

I STILL WISH THEY WOULD BUY AMERICAN instead of padding the manipulative pockets of a foreign nation.

"Hello? Detroit? Are you listening????"

It cost money to fast period. No matter what it is. Some cars cost more than others to make fast. My car runs mid 10s at over 130, and it still has A/C full interior, stereo, two 10" subs, completly (sp) stock in appearence stock hood, stock 16" pony rims, no stickers not even one. I love that image, I just dont understand, Id rather let the car do the talking, plus all the attention, you get is not good, when the car is all riced out. It is out of control here, but I think it comes down to its cheaper to make it look fast than go fast. Trust me..LOL..

You know it's sad when they call your car the easter egg. There's a ricer here that is a lilac colorand has been dubbed Easter Egg. It has the coffee can exhaust and the park bench on the trunk. When I was driving my dad's 89 oldsmobile cutlass cierra 2.8 ltr v6 frontwheel drive with a bad fuel pump, transmission that refused to shift half the time, and bad cv joints, I stomped this guy a new face. He wouldn't even pull up to the next light by me. I caught him next time around and he wouldn't even look over at me. I laughed. Most of the "ricer's" around here get more of the "hooptie" look and have "low 'n' slow" stickers on them. I think they're trying to cover the fact that their cars couldn't hang if they tried.

I liked the movie except for that beautiful charger they destroyed. That and Vin Deisel is just hot but ya know... I don't know if I'll like the second one cuz I haven't seen it. Someday, I'll have my 79 F100 up to par and I'll go find Easter Egg and show him what's up.

My only real opinion of the whole ricer thing, is they look dumb, they sound dumb and if you aren't going to get the speed and stay out of the way instead of cruising around at 20 mph on a street that's 35, then don't get ****** when your mobile bar sign is blown away by an all american piece of glory.

Hey DS:

(I know it wasn't me exactly you replied to but...)

I'm curious what is going to happen WHEN (not how long but when) we run out of oil. Or it becomes as scarce as diamonds?

I love my truck, and I am sure if I was of the generation that had the pre 70's gas guzzling cars I probably would of loved it then. But in all honestly I myself am concerned about the fact that we use gas WAY faster then the crude oil is naturally created.

Are you implying alternative fuel v8 powered trucks? Or do you not believe that the oil supply will ever run out?

Just curious. I'm asking this as honestly and as innocently as I can.

I figure eventually somebody will figure out how to make synthetic gasoline. Just like synthetic oil. I read in Popular Hotrodding about how a company figured out how to ferment corn into 112 octane. Supposedly it's being tested in the Midwest by a fleet of cars. If it were to be mass produced on the scale gasoline is it would cost about 95 cents per gallon. It was a real neat article published about a year ago. They're not sure if it will be harmful to vehicles in the long run and it is currently in the testing phase. Supposedly it will burn 35% cleaner than pump gas.

But they won't do it and you know they won't. If they did, by some miracle, find an alternative fuel, they wouldn't use it becuz too many big oil boys got their pocketbooks in the hands of too many politicians. It really is that simple. Something like that would make the discoverer as much or more than Bill Gates and all the people owning mineral rights to land with black gold would throw a fit. I'm sure someone would come up with a lawsuit against someone that it was taking their right to pursue happiness how they chose away becuz they're money is not coming in as freely for them to spend as quickly on worthless junk. Supposedly there's an engine that was built that got around 90 mpg. Where is it? Supposedly the government said no to it becuz it would kill the oil industry and they couldn't charge near as much for gasoline becuz it would no longer be as precious a commodity. Of course this is a rumor I heard ages ago. And if you think about it, where would the politicians get their money if the oil boys weren't able to give it to them anymore? Who would they turn to to make up the difference? Certainly not me.

But all this is off topic. Those stupid ricers think they're all great cuz they think they look cool... whatever! I just don't see how an easter egg colored tin can with what to me looks like a beanie propellor on the truck and has neon lights like a bar sign can be considered to look good. It's soooo pointless to have those spoilers cuz ain't none of them gonna hit the speeds they need to hit for them to actually be of structural use. Dumb Dumb Dumb...

Any car built for performance (Besides that Acura NSX or whatever) is RWD. BMW's, Vipers, Mustangs, Etc.
I'm not exactly sure who you're responding to with your post, but since I think I'm the only one who mentioned AWD I'm guessing that it was me. However, I never said it was the "performance top of the line".

However, here are a few cars that are available with AWD:

Lamborghini Diablo
Lamborghini Murcielago
Porsche 911 Turbo
Porsche 911 Carrera 4
Audi S4
Audi S6
Audi S8
BMW 3-series

There are quite a few others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

AWD is definitely used for performance cars, and the primary reason it isn't even more common is because it is expensive, and because it is difficult to engineer it into an existing platform. Plus, many automakers just don't have the knowledge & experience required to design a good AWD system.

As far as torque goes, several of the vehicles listed above have more torque than the SVT Mustang Cobra - AWD is not designed to "allow cars with little to no torque, get up and go faster".

While AWD is generally faster (part of why it has been banned from most racing circuits), it's true that RWD cars are generally more fun on paved roads - which I think is also part of the reason RWD is popular on vehicles like the Viper.

Hey LK I thought some of those Lambo's were full time 4WD. I dont have time to look it up atm but I guess I could be wrong.

AWD like the talon where its only activated when loss of tracition is what your talking about right? Not full time 4WD?

(Im not picking on anything I just want to make sure I have my facts straight :-)

If I understand right the Lambo, Porsche, and BMW's are AWD all of the time. It is done pretty easily with a front to back differential so you have no gear binding. I know that BMW uses an electronic system that sends 66% of torque to the rear wheels and the other 34% to the front. I'm not sure how the others work but I think it's something similiar.

ok, back to the topic of rice!

ok on Saturday 2 friends and my younger brother went to the the mall in Ohio(driving 85 T-Bird 5.0TBI or Efi whatever you want to call it) and the way back, there was this guy who nobody was letting out of this parking lot so I decided to be nice and let him out. Then there was a long strip of 2 lane road and somehow this guy got behind me. If you can visualize a four lane divided road) I was in the left lane and there was a truck in the right lane (about a car and a half) and the car that I let go and was being courteous too was behind the car in the right lane. Then out of nowhere this guy floors it and cut me off. Oh I was mad and wanted revenge, I said I can't believe that guy just cut me off after I let his *** go. After he cut me off and nearly hitting my front bumper, I decided to pass him so I was going about 40MPH which was the speed limit and then floored it hit and around 95MPH and passed this honda ricer and swerved into his lane cutting him off. he then hit his brakes because there were two cops sitting on the side of the road, ha- I slammed on my brakes causing the tires to squeal. Yeah the cops look and I was still going like 55MPH trying to slow down, they then pulled out without there light on trying to be sneaky(my brother noticed the cops before I did) then I slowed to about 25 because there was a sharp bend in the road I had two choices either lose my licence by going left or try to escape so I tried to escape by making a right into this town which is a mostly African American population and they all were staring at me like “what are you doing here” , trying to desperately get away from the cops. Running stop signs, going the wrong way on 1-way roads. I finally made it home! thank GOD I will never have road rage again! it only gets you in trouble.

anyways can the cops nab me for something that I did a few days ago or do they have to see you do something wrong when they pull you over?
