Intently watching the Waldo Canyon fire in CO. It is very near the apartment we lived in for the first 6 months we were there and not far from where I worked.
My brother has already been evacuated and is sort of "stuck" at work coordinating evacuees on the college campus he works at. My Aunt and Uncle are on alert. The Air Force Academy has already been evacuated. They live across the interstate from the AFA. So far safe, but the fire could very easily jump over I-25 and start consuming homes. If that happens, it will be WAY worse. East of I-25 is where most of Colorado Springs is. Humidity has been in the single digits.

My sister lives in Woodland Park, she was evacuated on Saturday. Praying her house is there when they let her back. She's staying with my mom down by Fort Carson at the southern part of Colo Spgs. The AFA is the northern part of Colo Spgs.

I-25 seems to be the eastern evacuation border. If it reaches east of there, prepare for a HUGE loss. Where I worked is only about 5 blocks from the eastern edge of the evacuation area.
Good Morning Troy. Thanks! I hope so. It was 5% contained, but with 65MPH winds and no rain, it broke through containment lines yesterday. There are now 32,000 people evacuated.
Rain would be a great thing out there or even if the wind would die down.

Good afternoon guys. Another work from home day.
Looks like I may have a few days off coming up too, no work right now. Really getting frustrated with this year so far............

1.doing the front brakes on my '77, figured I should look at the wheel bearings since I'm going to have them nearly apart. the haynes manual says to wash the bearings in part solvent and then repack them. Thoughts on necessity of washing out the old grease?
2. What grease to use?
3. One of the the threads I read mentioned a special socket to remove the axle nut. supposedly costs $50... ideas around it?
edit:
special socket for this OTC #7158 or similar. and yes I realize (now) it says $26 on amazon... anyone want to lend me one?
As suggested just spray out the old with brake cleaner and pack some new wheel bearing grease in.
Check the rollers and the race for heat spots and replace them as needed, both bearing and race together if you do.
I had the correct socket to do this but loaned it out a few years ago and it never returned...

It's easy.
Best method I have found is load up a big glob of grease in your palm and work the grease into the bearing.

I mowed yesterday too, now it should be good to go for a week or 2......

I need to mow the new place and well as finish at the old one. I need to get the pulley replaced and get a new belt on before I can do that.

Hey Mike! That sucks you are not busy. Hope things turn around and get busy for you.

That's how I remember doing it. big slab of grease, and roll roll roll
Just to make sure..........you don't want to roll the bearing in the grease. You put a slab of grease on the palm of your hand and then take your other hand and pound the bearing on the palm of your hand with the grease on it driving the grease into the bearing.
