hey everyone got a question i hope you guys could help with, first a description of the problem, the truck is a 1995 f 150 flareside 5.8 litre 2 wheel drive with a e40d auto trans problem is : around town all day truck shifts fine ,no problems , take it on the highway for about 1/2 hr at highway speed and truck will start shifting with a bang and violently hard pulled codes and got a 28 and 62 : loss of tach right side and convertor clutch error ,if i remove neg. cable for a few minutes truck will shift normal untill highway again , would a bad erg selonoid valve cause this ?
Was the eninge at operating temp when you pulled the codes? It should be or some sensors will read out of range.
So if the engine was warmed up then code 28 could be for a dead Intake Air Temp(IAT or sometimes called VAT) sensor and if so that will put the computer into open loop and that will make the trans shift hard since the same computer controls the transmission and it's programmed to do that. Code 62 may then be resulting from this action and if so will go away once the primary fault is fixed.
ok sorry , been working , i cleaned out the iac and truck seems to be idleing smoother ,cleared codes now not getting any except system pass short run on highway truck is shifting ok . i will take a longer trip this weekend and let you guys know what happens ! thanks for your help
ok highway run today , ran fine, went into town shifted good , every thing is working like it should ,except for the water pump leaking now ! gonna replace that tommorrow i will let you guys know if anything changes thanks for you're suggestions !
ok problem started again with wife driving it on highway , i cleared codes and took a longer highway run but this time with overdrive turned off and had no issues at all with hard shifting bad overdrive selonoid ? or trans rebuild ? is it ok to not use o/d ? other than gas mileage ? thanks !
I did not have time to pull any codes at the time. but so far if i keep it out of o/d trans is fine i have to take it on a hour and a half long highway trip tommorrow if it is gonna shift hard it will do it then i am going to not put it in o/d and see what happens i will let you know
How long since the last tranny service? Sometimes at high speed, if your shifting down to third the driveline will shock. Just because your whole drive line has wear in it, it adds up. But grab those codes and check your driveline for any play.
