does anybody know anything about these e40d's, i have got a 91 f150 down and i cannot fingure out whats wrong with it, the truck will run fine for about 10 miles or so and then itl start shifting really hard, and sometimes it wont shift at all after it warms up, i also have an f350 with same tranny doing about the same thing, both seemed to start acting up not long after the motor was pulled and replaced on both of them. i thought maybe a pinched wire but i couldnt find 1. any info on this?
There are many unrelated sensors that can cause the PCM to go into Limp Mode which in turn can cause harsh shifting. Start with the KOEO test and CM code check.

+100 on pulling the codes, and I'd add that since the trans is controlled by the same computer that runs the engine there really are no unrelated sensors.
ok thanks ill run them first chance i get, also do i need to drive the truck around again untill it messes up bcus i just put a new battery on it yesterday so it wiped my cm codes,
Yes disconnecting the battery for more than 5 minutes wipes out all computer memory so it'll probably need several drive cycles to relearn and flag the problems.
