1994 F150 4X4 302, E4OD. Sometimes runs and drives fine. Other times it will stay in 2 gear till it raps to the moon then bang your head off the back glass when it shifts. Sometimes it downshifts at highway speeds for no reason. Once in a great while it acts like its in neutral and won't pull.(Does this going down the road not froma stop). We didn't want to mess with the trans. internal parts, so we put a salvage trans. in it instead. It does the same thing.
Does the ecm for the engine control the shifts in the trans.? What all sensors are outside the trans. that would affect shift points?
Fluid and filter are fresh. Level is correct. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
We retrieved the codes from the 94 F150 E4OD. they were
45 Dis circuit pack coil failure. (because I had the coil unplugged)
26 Transmission oil temperature sensor fault (have had 2 trans. in this truck and they both have the same problem. the TOT sensor is in the trans. sump so I am curious about this one)
28 Loss of primary tachometer (IDM), right side (can't find squat on that)
If you read the original symptoms and add these codes, what do you come up with?
Any idea what the 28 code is telling us. I am currently erasing codes, cleaning connectors, and drive and retrieve codes again. Just thought maybe this would spark somebodies memory on a possible cause to our problem. Thanks in advance for any input.
i believe it is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). i was having similar problems with shift points ect, i also had my tach doing the dance of the butterfly. $44(cdn) almost universaly between napa, canadian tire, and the ord dealership.
its a small sensor that sits directly on top of your rear diff, one bolt and an electronic clip to take off and it should pull right out.
