Are you sure it was 180 off? Carb backfires are from having the timing way too advanced. The spark event is occurring while the intake valves are still partially open. Did you do any work that would affect cam timing?

Well I'll be headed to the airport in a bit...John Wayne...I'm sure everyone has seen the news about the Southwest flight a couple of days ago from John Wayne and the security issue...I am prepared for extra screening today...
Unfortunately I'll be traveling until about 10pm tonight...gonna be a LOOOONG day...
