Not to sound rude, but I personally believe the proper course of action would've been to send back the transmission and for them to send you ANOTHER ONE, PROPERLY SHIPPED in the first place.
Believe it or not, you CAN start and run these engines WITHOUT the transmission installed. I would actually start and run this engine with the transmission removed, just to make sure no engine damage has been done by the transmission locking up.
I tried to get them to take it back because of the shipping but they said in and email their was nothing hurt and to install it that it had a lifetime warranty. I also ask them to bring up another one when they drove the 500 mile trip to replace the pump but they refused. So much for a warranty if your truck is down for weeks on end. I have followed thier install sheet, fluid install amounts but it is getting old and long on excuses. They said they would drive up the 500 miles monday or tuesday to solve the problem. I will be telling him to bring another transmission because according to Mark it is toast.
I still am not sure to why it would lockup( the engine will still turn not full locked up) the motor then over night freeup and restart fine and then chock it off again. Don't worry your not being rude. Just trying to understand and resolve the issue.
1) Mark I do not know how to post the exact quotein the highlighted boxes but the rebuilder told me there was and internal valve that had to reach 180 degrees before the fluid would inter the cooler lines and that was the whole issue with needing to let it run for 15 minute, but I was always checking the fluid it would never change levels nor did the trans make a sound until seconds before it choked the motor down. The wheels where off the ground incase it was not in park or linkage out of adjustment.
2) The scan tool belongs to a lifetime friend who owns and runs a mechanic shop for 35 years. He ran the test. It was a Snap-on and it read if I recall right the code P1744 with the old transmission that led me to dropping the pan, replacing the TCC soleniod but with no change and the dark fluid with some metal on the magnet I decide to change the trans because of the 135,000 mile on it.
3) He believe it is a pump issue with a relief valve or is dead heading so how.
Thanks for your reponses and sorry I am not good at explaining. I can only go by what this tech is telling me I did not believe him either on the temp valve but this is the first 5r110 I have replaced.

That's true for the final check to set the fluid level. There is a thermostat that needs to warm up before there is 100% flow to the cooler. When the transmission is too cool to open the thermostat there is still 10% of the normal flow going to the cooler.
If you always had to warm the trans up until the thermostat opened then in cold weather you wouldn't be able to move the truck until it warmed up. That's not the case. I've personally driven these trucks seconds after starting them at -35°F.

I can't tell you why he couldn't read the codes.

There is no relief valve. It could be dead heading the pump if they left a rag packed in the pump somehow.
The real problem is that the trans is screwed up and will not work. Ever. It needs to come out and get replaced or rebuilt.
