a built E4OD with a triple locking converter! yeah man!!
i never looked into the zf5's clutch NB was talking about, but doesn't matter.it's only a clutch.
one of 'em,i forget now.banks, ats, maybe it was racerx's well anyway, they hooked onto 26k and hauled her up a 6% for i forget how long............0 slip. them trip disc converters, some of them are rated for like 1,000 ft lbs.far and above what he'll ever make.
you know what happens before she locks right? besides just connecting the engine to the trans, she acts as another gearing device.....oh man.there is just no beating the E40D.one built to last i mean, like from BTS,ATS,racerx, etc.(big bucks though.) with matching HD converter.his truck would smoke my pre-updated '93 E4OD in no time.
his boost needle wouldn't be all over the place either, she'd SMACK 20 and hang on!not letting up under 15 psi i bet until 100+
lol the E40D on paper is rated for more towing but in the real world.... ive seen i think 3 E40D's go to crap behind GASSERS..... and me an my brothers ZF5's keep truckin right along..... im a manual guy. i wish they kept manuals in the new trucks. with money you can build a E40D to hold up but in stock form they aint the greatest.
yeah but man,it's just a shame that they didn't come in just the basic updated ford rebuild form as they do now (though with a decent converter too) so they didn't get a bad rap.
a "real" E40D (not talking our stock ones lol) one built right.............no Zf5 could touch it in any aspect.seriously, not even close.
I ordered an AEM brute force cone filter today. Just by the numbers it flows more than the 6637. I am going to put a vac filter gauge in so I can see if the filter is still a restriction. Hopefully not.
In the meantime I put the filter from my bronco onto it, as it flows more than the filter racin' gave me, yet still not enough.
I hooked the B2 up and went for a test drive with a load.
this is the only other image I have of the boost and pyro that are clear, so you can reference where they are if you cant tell. Sorry but my video camera is low quality.

These are great videos of this build and how it turned out. It seemed like it hauled without issue, what happened with the clutch? Slippage? Any ideas for a clutch that can take more power? Amazing build regardless great job!!

Yeah, this one can only handle up to 610 torque. It was slipping without a load, I knew it would slip badly with a load.
I have already found another clutch. It is single disc, dual layer ceramic plate and button, and a 3800lb pressure plate (stock is only 2400lb). It is capable of taking 1400tq.
You mentioned they have some TC's rated for 1000tq but said I would never get anywhere near that, but I'm already near that point.
As for automatics, I like them, but they are more problematic. I have a $2500 fully built C5 behind my truggy and although its a dream to wheel with in comparison to my 5spd, my 5spd as trouble free for years. You have more overheating issues with auto's, as well as other things.
I prefer to drive an auto, I prefer the reliability of a manual, as well as the price tag.
I'm certain I could build an E4OD to match that ATS unit for 1/3 the cost.
