Another barn find.
Another barn find.
Last week, I came across this F250 that was sitting in a barn with a tarp over it. It turns out that it was owned by an elderly lady that bought it new but had past away. It has 38,000 miles on it and it came with all of the original paperwork, invoice, and maintenance records. The original owners son-in-law and I did some trading so I am in it $600.00. I towed it home, spent about an hour changing fluids and it started right up. It still had the original belts and hoses on it.
Anyway, it's a 79 F250 4x4 with a 400, 4spd, 3.54 gears, front and rear sway bars. Last weekend, I drove it to my cabin and it runs and drives like new. And to top it off, I got 14.31 MPG.
Now the big question. Do I leave it all stock or not?

WOW! That's almost like it rolled right out of the showroom! And x2 to the previous post, if it were mine, I'd just give the wheels a fresh coat of paint (factory color) and maybe find the style of hubcaps it came equipped with (if any), and leave it perfectly as it is. It can only be original once!

That is one nice lookin truck. I would paint the stock rims up so they don't rust and set them in the corner. Get a nice set of rims and take off or paint that hunk of metal on the front.
Wow. Hot damn you stole that thing. I paid $1500.00 for my 74 250 4x4. It was a piece of crap when I got it and I felt I got a pretty good deal. Our vintage 4x4's around here usually start at $2500.00 roached or not.
HOLY CARP, that thing is nice!!!!!!
I would leave it stock other than the wheels and tires. Way too nice of a truck to start hacking it up. Now, that's only my opinion. You on the other hand, have as much fun with it as you want, it's YOURS.
I would preserve the factory rims as best as I could and store them in a cool, dark and dry place. I would also fine a set of the factory aluminum wheels like they ran on the (I think) 94-96 F-250's with 245/75R16 or 265/75R16 tires. They would look nice, but still have that Factory Ford look.
Like these, but wuth the center caps for the 4wd.

Very nice truck. Did you kiss the boy after paying him?
