there is no way in HELL you found it just like that in a barn! Dude dont touch it. leave it all alone. i like that winch mount on front. Hell Ill trade ya my 78 Short bed for it and its gettin a new coat of paint and everything! I paid $700 for mine and it had some cancer then bought an $800 bed and im payin for a $2000 paint job. Your one lucky guy. he musta had it covered and everything. i envy you with a passion. lol The more original it is, the more money its worth. you have a true piece of vintage detroit iron and to beat it all, its all original. DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE TRUCK!!!!
The truck needs to be kept as a reference source!
Stop the wheel rust. Leave the paint as is.
Use something like http://preventrust.info/ospho-rust-primer/
Get replacement tires OEM
Remount the winch.
The closer to the invoice the higher the value.
Jay Leno would collect it.
NADA value for an excellent condition valuation is $7,933
From what I see I would place a premium of at least $3,000
on the truck.
Great find, I would say you hit the Dentside Lottery! I'm glad you are just doing wheels and tires.
78longbed nailed it. You sir have hit the Dentside Lottery. I have to admit I am jealous but am glad it went to someone who is appreciating it. This survivor could've just went to some middle man A-hole who just flips it for $7,000 profit or even worse someone who muds it all to hell.
Very nice find I would leave it stock. One thing I would do is clean the engine an stuff up on it take some stuff off an repaint them the parts that are rusty an things like that to it. But you got a sweet deal. Just one question does he have anymore like that condition for about that price in another barn?
that truck should be blue printed or documented. have notes and pics of every little
sticker, mark, and parts on it. That way if some one wanted to restore a truck they
could base it of of the untouched truck seen in this post. this would be the standard
all restores could be based on. it is like a time capsule.
enter it on a show im sure you would do well.
There are car/truck shows that have a class for original condition vehicles.
Keep it warm and dry.
Find Ethanol Free gas for it.
Drive it. Not hard or for many miles.
Bring it to Cruisin' The Coast
Wow! That is awesome, especially the 14.3 mpg. If I could get my 94 f150 to pull that mileage I would be happy! The only thing that would make that truck better would be if it was a supercab or a crew cab. Apparently the seller just wanted to get rid of moms "old crappy truck". Good find.
I'm opening a dentside museum and need that truck for my survivor collection. Please ship it to me immediately. I will drive it at least once a week to keep it in good working order.
Non-restored barn finds are about the hottest thing going right now. They are only original once... keep it stock!
I took the rusty winch mount off yesterday. It was bolted through the front spring bolt and spring hanger. It looks much better now. Tomorrow, the wheels get dropped off to get powder coated white.
Incredible find! I agree with everyone else here and glad you are taking a caretaker approach. Do you have the original bumper gaurds for the front bumper and I hope you're putting them back on..
This is an awesome find. My truck was a similar find, 78 250 2 wheel drive with 26,000 original miles. It had been in my family since new. I had an uncle who was saving it for his son, but the son didn't want it. I ended up with it but it cost me $7500. I took it to an appraiser and he valued it at $11,500. He told me what makes it valuable is all the factory marks on the truck. Restored vehicles don't have these because frames are sand blasted, engine compartments are repainted etc. He also said putting miles on it won't really affect it's value because it is still a 30+ year old truck. I have to drive mine. I can't just let it sit. Enjoy it, They don't make them like this anymore.
Wow! That's like finding a
Stradivarious in an attic or something.
That interior is to die for.
Look, no saddle blanket!
I agree on cleaning and painting some
engine stuff.
It deserves it!
Seeing as how the winch mount was dealer installed and on the original invoice I would have that powder coated black and put it back on with a winch in it. Keep it as original to the spec. sheet as you can.
