Good advice on the sand blasting. I've got the entire truck stripped down to the frame and running gear only. But I think you guys are right. These days it's all about saving money. I don't mind a little extra work doing it by hand with a grinder.
HaHa ! I know mikey ! I actually don't like red that much .
Highboy44, That red dash is awsome! (red is my family's favorite color for our truck) I just re-read all of your post's. I have a co-worker like you I think. He ALWAY's has a smile on his face and look's at the positive side of every issue. I think you are like him. He has never said a negative word as far as I know. I want to repeat, awsome job on your truck and awsome positive attitude. Most of us here know the work involved in the repairs you have made. Sanding, wire brushing, dismantaling, re-assembly, etc. You write with a percieved written smile about it.
Damn. Amazing truck man. What i would do to have $5K to replace tools and buy a decent truck. Id love to do, at the very least, a mild restoration. Almost bought a '78 F250 Lariat Supercab long bed. Has the 460 with 68K. 100% original. The amount of rust on this thing was astonishingly minimal. Especially since it spent its whole life in Michigan
Morket,
when I redid my first truck, I gave myself a budget of $100 per month. It sounds small, but you would be surprised how fast you can reach $5K. I say, if you can, go for it! It is a very rewarding experience.
Thanks Riderman and Morket !!! yeah I know you guys know all this stuff but i'm always wondering how much detail to post cuz there might be some kid that hasn't done or seen something, or someone might just need to see a part for detail or something, I'll just put all this stuff up, you can take it or leave it , ask a bout it or even complain, thats cool !
Hedders were rotten ! ordered some more from Summit ! The un coated ones come with just a protective paint but some brake cleaner and a cloth and the stuff just melts right off !
A VHT prime coat and two full coats of ceramic flat black hedder paint. I decided just to get the standard hedder and apply the coating myself because they were new and figured the coating might last a little longer than it would on a rusty set cleaned up.
FINALLY !!! got to pick up my engine !!!! what a beautiful sight !!! with a shameless plug for the machine shop and another chance to show off my other truck
