If it is an airport tug then only smooth surfaces.

My money is on a Jeep chassis swap. Notice the front fender has been cut and the tire sits more forward. The 56 aircraft tug I've seen just had a chopped rear end, they didnt touch the front. No point in changing that and it would just add a cost.

I'll see if I can find a picture of the 56.

Don't think so. I've never seen a Jeep with eight lug wheels. My guess would be a F-350/450 swap or just an axle swap.

Agreed. Early tugs had solid rubber wheels.

Here is that 56, pretty sure it's been on here before. Looking at the photos he added the "camel towing". I thought when he first posted it he mentioned it was used as a tug.

Possible he swapped in stronger axles. A dana 44 can have a 8 lug pattern. He would have had to use a full sized axle for that tire spacing anyways.

I dunno, just looks like a Jeep under there to me. Especially given the tire size and wheel choice. The other tugs have duallys.
plus the forest makes me think Jeep too.

I'm pretty sure if someone was to dig back into this thread we'd find pics of mid 70's Ford pickups overly shortened for airport tug service. I recall this conversation before, wondering the purpose of the strange shortening. Here's a couple others I found while looking for the ones I was thinking about.

That's called a "trailer toter". I know back in the '70's you could factory order them from International. You could pull a 40' mobile home in states with a 50' restriction.
