I'm thinking twice about doing town on an MTB though, heat index is 100 and it's a 12 to 15 mile hill bash (RT).
Man I wish there was a trail around Glenn Springs - but they're sinking 1MEG into a local park that has a trail through 28 acres. I still haven't been all the way down it, it may not be finished yet...
Come to think of it, if they PAVE it - it will be the very first blacktop bike or hiking trail in this entire area that I know of
and it runs through lots of woods!
You can go cycling for hours in Shelby forrest, but you have to share the road with cars still
I've just decided to go snap some pics of it, in lieu of what I WAS thinking of doing to myself today. I need to ride today anyway. A year from now those pics may be worth something, who knows?

Yeah I got some serious miles in on sat! I rode a buddies nice carbon frame race bike (similar to mine) in Caily and we got around 105 in but mind you the SoCal temps were perfect for cycling! I am dreading this weeks cycling back in TN.
