I used to drive Chevs. In the early 90's I wanted to get a pickup. My wife wanted a Blazer. We settled on a 1986 F250HD Supercab. Drove it until 2002 when we bought our first Diesel. Haven't looked back. Only regret is selling the 02. It had the 7.3. with only about 40k on it to get our 08.
Ironically I own a ford because the resale value on non diesel f250s is horrible- really.
I just picked up a 08 f250 v10 4x4 lariat crew cab with only 19k miles from a dealer- loaded (backup camera,20s,heated seats etc.) for 27k. 46k original sticker.
My budget was 25 to 30k- and in that range the f250 was BY FAR the most truck available.
They are wanting 27k for used Toyota tundras that are 2007s and with no options with way more miles.
For 30k I might have been able to get a new f150 - but I need the payload capacity that the f250 offers.
You cant beat a used f250. Seriously- best bang for the buck truck used you can get.
"Quality is Job 1" - During my youth, I drove import vehicles and hated all American made vehicles. This was during the late 70's, 80's, and early 90's. Why? Because the American car manufacturers made a lot of "junk" during that time period. Like another poster stated, the import vehicles started to have high resale values so in 1998 I purchased a new 1998 Mustang GT. I was impressed with the quality of the car and had a change in mind regarding American made vehicles. Since then, I've purchased two Ford trucks (1997 F250 and 2005 F350). I can say that the 1997 F250 is nowhere near the quality of the 1998 Mustang GT or the 2005 F350. Ford really did step up their game in the late 90's to present. So, I currently own three Ford vehicles.
"Political Influences" - With the government bailout of GM and Chrysler, I support Ford Motor Company for managing its own financial affairs without tax payer dollars. I am a loyal Ford customer and will support FMC both now and in the future.
"Family Tradition" - My grandfather was a diehard Ford customer his entire life. He died three months ago at the age of 97. I have chosen to carry his banner for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grand children.
grew up in a house divided. 1 side of family had nothing but Fords. 1 side was nothing but Chevy
I love almost all 1950-1970 Chevy vehicles. They are iconic, and they flat out scream. After 1970 though...they kinda suck. Although my 1977 El Camino SS was wicked fast. I've had a few wild SBC strokers
I personally have owned the following list of Fords. List is too long if I add my dads rides. There are a ton of other vehicles (thx to wife) as well . Fords have treated me right, To date, I've only been Found On Road Dead 1 time. Not too shabby.
None of my Ford's have ever left me stranded. I have always at least been able to limp them home and get them repaired, even with way more abuse than I should put them through. Pulling trailers, mudding, offroading.. none of my buddies ch*vies have been able to stand up to near the abuse that my Fords have. I have never had to take any of my pickups to a mechanic, while my friends are averaging at least 2 mechanic bills a year. That doesn't include the work they do on their own. My friends that own dodges I won't even mention.. I can't believe that junk is still on the road..
Mike Rowe Talked me into it.....But Ford Trucks has always been part of the family!
Owned 89 Ford Bronco, 94 & 96 Explorer, Then grew in to the F250. I still need something Bigger.
When I was looking for as truck I didn't have a lot of knowledge but the F250 was the one that my ATV(with accessories) could fit in the back with the tailgate up. That extra few inches in the bed makes a difference. Also, I liked the idea of the V10 because I didn't know anything about diesel except that the price and maintainence was a lot higher, but I needed to haul my 30' travel trailer.Overall the truck has been pretty good considering I bought it used with 140,000 miles on it.
well my first car was a 1965 malibu that i worked on for 10 years then i got a 95 silverado lifted but was only V6 only reason i got that was cuz my brother gave it to me to drive while i played with my car.
then i realized i need something more saver and realiable since i have 2 kida 2 yr old and 9 months so i sold the chevy about 1.5 years ago then sold the 65 about about 3 months ago and since the 90 f250/350 came out i fell in love with the so 2 days after i sold the 65 i bought a 95 F350 CC LB 7.5L. well needless to say it was a peice of **** so after about a month working on that i went to trade it in and got that BAD M-FER i got now. and i couldnt be anymore happier
At the beginning of last year I had two new Chevy 3/4 ton trucks. Both front diffs failed and the one transfer case failed. Both had rusty bumpers with less than 20,000km of the odo. I liked the Super Duty's interior better and I liked the look of the truck better. I don't like the way the new dodge looks and I couldn't get a gas 1 ton from Dodge. So I got the Ford and I couldn't be happier. I have always been a Chevy guy, but I wouldn't buy a single thing they make right now. Ford, I think has turned around in quality and I like almost everything they make.
