Most of us have a reason behind our decision to purchase a Ford truck. What is your reason?
I'll start!
1) When I first saw the 2004-2008 F150s I fell in love. When I turned 16 I bought one. A year later is saved my life in what could have and should have been a fatal crash. I was saved by the integrity of the truck and Ford's motto BUILT FORD TOUGH. And possibly someone watching over me.
2) I own a hauling business. If my truck stops working, I lose money. Thats why I drive a Ford Superduty!
I had a Dodge Dakota first. I need something bigger, and I have always loved the 1980-86 model ford trucks. Mine is a 1980 F-150 extended cab, with the inline 6 and a four speed.
Other than because Ford builds the F series trucks and Mustangs? Is there any other reason? Lol. I don't like anything about dodges and chevies. I haven't seen a foreign truck built as tough as the F series despite what people say a tundra nor titan will never fit the bill.
It must be a family thing. My dad worked highway contruction in the mid sixties. The first truck I can remember was a 1966 F100 2x4. He stayed with Fords because he said the others didn't hold up compared to his truck. He traded every couple of years and when he changed jobs in 1976 I took over the remaining payments on his 1974 F100 Ranger. Back then "Ranger" and "Explorer" were trim packages not vehicles. I bought my first new truck in 1978 a F150 4x4 300 straight six 4 speed. 1985 thru 1989 is the only time I haven't had a truck. Three F150's in the 90's and 99 till now 4 Super Duty's.
I guess I was born into it. I was brought home from the hospital after I was born in a 66 Mustang conv, I later took that same car to my senior prom, we have had a 32 duece, 69 Mustang, 55 Sunliner, my first car was a 86 Escort (no laughter please), then an 86 Mustang, a 99 Ranger, 02 F150 and now my 2011 Superduty. My Dad still has his 02 Superduty and a 89 Crown Vic. All we have ever had was Ford's.
I was a GMC truck guy, but they kept getting uglier, and they weren't holding up well. I fell in love with the Superduty body style and had to have one.
Now after three superduys, all other trucks seem so inferior in comparison.
My previous truck was a Dodge that served me well. When I needed a new truck I figured I would buy a new chevy since the dealership is right across the street from my main car wash. Also, my mom and dad met when they worked there and I had worked there a couple of years as well. When the '07 body style came out all bets were off. They still haven't grown on me, still ugly as hell. My fiance who lived 150 miles away was a writer at a Ford dealer so I bought an '08 F-250 there. Although I seem to be building a fleet of Fords I'm not that loyal to a certain brand, it's just working out that way for now.
My fleet:
69 Impala SS 427
66 Mustang Convertible
01 Sport-Trac
08 F-250
07 Edge - adding to the fleet next week.
Because I needed the toughest & most reliable trucks I could buy. I bought an HHR panel because Panels are cool, and Chevy was the only one making them.
Being raised on a big farm, we had lots of Pickups and big trucks. Nothing could outlast or even out perform the Fords. Our grain trucks and pickups were abused nearly daily, and they seldom gave us an issue. All were overloaded during harvest, even the pickups, and never failed us to get grain to market. We had 2 GMC's grain trucks and it was an ongoing battle to keep those working. The Fords, never failed, honestly. That has just led me to keep Ford in my garages. As you can see in my sig I still keep 3.
I have had:
1976 J20 Jeep Pickup - great truck until I wrecked it
1980 F-100 2WD 300 six auto - loved it but hated not having 4WD (wish I had it back now)
1986 Brinco II - I liked it, traded when OD went out
1979 F-150 4WD - used a quart of oil every 8 miles (yes, eight miles) - loved it!
1983 Dodge Ramcharger - good truck, and I could haul kids in it!
went about a year without a truck, then bought the best truck I ever owned:
1991 F150 4WD ext. cab SB 300 six FI 4 speed. 229,00 miles when I sold, never used a drop of oil
2001 Ford Excursion - again, I could haul a BUNCH of kids
Current - 2000 F-250 SD Supercrew
As you can see, mostly fords, I just love them, great quality, tough trucks. (Also, the SD series are the best looking trucks since the '78-'79 Fords)
Mom has always driven fords, lincolns and mercs, now mom and dad have almost matching merc grand marquis. But, my Dad's first car was a 1962 Ford Falcon 2 door with an inline 6 and 3 speed trans. When he grew up he became a cop and has driven countless Ford Crown Vics. When I was little dad had an (84?) F100 with the inline 6 and 3 speed trans regular cab long bed gray and rust brown. I LOVED THAT TRUCK. Then dad bought a 95 ranger that would become mine. From there I bought a 2002 ex cab 4.0 4x4 with the flare side bed and i had too much fun in that truck. I owned it from the age of 19 to 23 and I put it through much more than I probably ever should have and it kept right up with me! Then Money got tight and gas prices went up so i needed something better on fuel and cheaper on insurance so i traded off the ranger for a 2004 Crown Vic. Great car, Police and Taxi drivers beat the hell out of them and I am nice to mine so i plan on keeping it forever! Then I met a girl, got a house got a ring and got married. We have an old house and huge yard so we have plenty of projects and once again I needed a truck. One year without a truck killed me anyhow. I ran across a 2003 6.0 ex cab short bed with a turnover goose in it and 70k on the clock. Right time, right place, right price. I snagged it up and really never plan on selling it either. It is my weekend warrior and I baby it just like my other vehicles. Ford is a family thing for me and I hope to pass on my love for the brand to my kids whenever they arrive and maybe someday they will be slightly reminiscent of their dad and riding in his big gray truck.....
Besides owning 5 different Fords over the last 11 years and being completely satisfied with its towing ability, looks and reliability, The reason I own a Ford is because they didn't take or ask for any of our government "bailout" money to keep themselves afloat, that alone shows character to me. Look at Ford earnings now, their doing really good last time I looked.
The first truck I ever owned was a 1984 Chev S10, OK but sold it because of size.
Second 1984 F250 std cab long bed with a 460, great truck but couldn't pass a gas station.
Third 1989 F150 std cab long bed with a 302, great truck std trans.
Fourth 1984 Chev C10 std cab long bed beater with over 200,000 miles, finally fell apart and donated.
Fifth 1998 F150 Lariat three door 5.4 L SB, my wifes truck for over 6 years and she loved it (I totaled it, boy was she mad)
Sixth 2000 F250 XLT Supercab 7.3 SB, wanted to get a 5er so had to get a truck that could handle as big a 5er as I wanted.
Seventh my new baby in my sig.
I have always loved Ford trucks. The two Chevys I owned were a mistake and against my better judgement.. Tried a Chevy out before I purchased my new Ford and, in my opinion, there was no comparison.
The Following list of regrets but the real reason reliability and tradition dad, grandpa, great grandpa all ford lovers
