First "fast" car i rode in was my stepfathers fox chassis mercury capri with quite a few open track go fast goodies. Along with my huge passion for road racing and Fords history in such events it had an influence on my choice of brand for a first vehicle, an '86 escort EXP. which led to a few mustangs to include two cobra's 97 and an '03 which takes the cake in the "best bang for the buck" title. Finally own that mercury capri i lusted over since childhood and have stuck with ford trucks here and there throughout my car addiction. Now have added a OBS powerstroke to the current collection.
Ford is the only brand i will throw real money at. I've been handed a few cheap or free off brands but they serve there purpose as salt catchers and i move on. The reasons i stay with ford have been said here already, but not until this latest deployment have i actually witnessed "built ford tough." out of 6 vehicles 3 fords, 2 chevys, and 1 dodge; guess which 3 havent gone down once!!! all driven on the same crappy roads by the same careless drivers. we had to park the dodge for good and now the 3 fords get all the abuse and still as strong as ever, with working A/C haha. its great ammunition for the "other guys"
I have three Ford vehicles in my driveway, and nothing else. Ford is the only way to go. I had a couple of Chevy's when I was younger, and I was wrenching on them all the time. I bought a 94 Ranger Splash brand new, and when I sold it in June on 09, it had over 256,000 miles on it, and it still had the original starter, water pump, radiator, transmission, and never had any major problems. All of the Ford's we have owned have been great. I wouldn't even think about owning anything else, especially a truck.
My dad was always a Ford man, and it kinda passed on to me. My dad had a 99 F-250 reg. Cab 4x4 for his work when I was a kid, my dad worked it had and still came back everyday for more. I remember it still to this day. And that's were the love of Superdutys came from. Then in my later teens came the love for diesels and I finally was able to buy one. No turning back now. . I tell everybody, Ford my not have the best at every aspect of a vehicle, but it is the best all around work truck on the market hands down.
i am in my first ford, have owned a couple of jeeps and a couple dodge rams. When GM and chrysler got bailed out by the government I vowed I would only drive a ford.
I have owned Ford trucks for the last 25 years. I use to be a GMC man before that. Ford has invested, and continues to do so, in their SuperDuty line. I need to rely on my trucks and have never had an issue with my Ford that has left me stranded. I wasn't too happy the five years I owned my 6.0. But that feeling is gone now with my 6.7 diesel.
I bought the Super Duty because it was considerably cheaper than the GMC 2500HD's I was looking at and I liked the fact it was made in Kentucky rather than Canada.
I'm a GM guy (some family works for GM, and my grandpa retired from GM).
I had a 06 Honda CBR 600RR and I needed to sell it to get a car/truck bc having just the bike for a year was getting old, not being able to do stuff or go get groceries ect.
Sold the bike, had to use that $ to purchase a cheap ride. Always wanted a 2500/250. No 2500HD's were in my price range, I have always liked the look of the Super Duties... Found my $10000 + KBB truck for $6000, talked him down to $5600. It is well taken care of, dude was in oil industry and had too much money to know what to do with.
I drive a ford because it's what I grew up around. My first love was a 1978 F-150 Ranger bought that truck when I was 16 and continued to buy them ever since. Last year was the first year that I have ever owned a f250 and I will never go back to 1/2 ton trucks.... I love the ride and I love the power of my v10.... and to quote others "they didn't take any bail out money".... Go Ford Go!!!!
I was always a Jeep/Land Cruiser/Land Rover/Xterra/etc kind of guy until I needed a truck for work. My dad sold his Land Cruiser and bought a 2005 F250 Crew Cab Lariat FX4 6.0 PSD and I loved it so I ended up selling my Jeep Wrangler for an F250. I ended up buying my dads friends 2000 F250 XLT SC SB 5.4L Triton since he gave me a killer deal on it and have absolutely loved it ever since. Of course I wanted the diesel but at the time I was only 17 (18 now) and the cost and maintenance of owning a diesel was far beyond me and with all the trailers I pull at work everyday (bumper pull trailers and occasional small goosenecks for a construction company) the 5.4L is plenty for me. I won't own any other vehicles from now on.
- By far the best looking truck on the market
- Nicest interior
- A straight piped 6.0 is the most beautiful sound my ears have ever had the pleasure of hearing
The first pickup I purchased was a 73 Datsun. It was not much of a truck. 1000# in the bed was beyond it's practical limit. Head gaskets failed within a year of purchase. The transmission never shifted right and I could hear a back-fire when shifting. This was 'normal' for this truck. It had no power to speak of and was not able to tow anything significant.
Several of my military friends came to my rescue and got me to purchase a real truck - a plain-jane 79 Ford pickup. This started my addiction to Ford trucks. Since then I've gone through the 150, 250 and 350 trucks and currently have an '06 Super Duty.
The secret to success (not much of a secret) is to perform all maintenance on schedule. Don't skip transmission oil/filter changes, engine oil changes, etc and the truck will run fine. Every truck I've owned since '79 has been essentially problem-free, even the supposedly evil 6.0 diesel.
When the time comes - the NEXT one will be Ford, too!!
In or about 1993 I was looking for a "real" truck to replace my '85 Nissan I bought from a buddy (first truck). The only thing I miss about that truck is how maneuverable it was for plowing (in 4LOW)!!
I actually wanted a Chevy at the time but couldn't find anything that fit the bill in my price range. Found an '87 F250HD on a drive-by and it had a plow as well!! Picked it up and found out what REAL trucks were all about!!
HATED the TTB, but was a very reliable truck!! A few years later I put new fenders on it, a new bed/tailgate and door from a donor truck and new cab corners (cut off the donor truck so we actually used the factory weld points)!
Painted her the same blue as the '97 F250's cuz I LOVED that color blue and a stainless exhaust!!
Unfortunately, I rear-ended someone in a small SUV and my plow frame bent backward and wreaked havoc on the entire front clip!!!
Got a really good payout from insurance b/c the truck was in such great shape. Talked to the bodyshop about what they wanted and decided I was better off taking the money and runnin' so that's what I did. The truck was NOT totaled so I listed it on Ebay and sold it to a guy up in Michigan who came and got it with his Chevy!!!
Found My 2002 on Autotrader at a Toyota dealer in Columbus!! Easily the biggest truck on the lot! It was only a year old and only 6k miles! Put the cash from the insurance and from selling the previous truck and put that down.
I got 9 years out of the '87 (and would have gotten more if it wasn't for the accident) and just hit 9 years with my '02 and plan on keeping it for a long time to come!! Aside from a nagging overheat issue and premature ball-joint failure I have had no major problems with her!! Just put in all new plugs and coils, radiator, about to do the brakes again but at 112k miles easily the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned!!
My "little helper" will be driving in a few years. He brought that up a few weeks ago and mentioned he sure would love a Superduty when he gets his license. And since HE has put the work in to help - I should give it to him at that time!! That might work out about perfect so long as Ford keeps up the quality (though it'd be nice if the dealt with their mistakes, too!!!).
I have owned nearly every make of domestic vehicle, and I am only 18. I have owned a Chevy, a Dodge, a Chrysler, and of course several Fords. Only the Fords can stand up to what I throw at my trucks, and the Chrysler was a piece of crap. The Nissan I owned was good for what it was, but still couldn't pull any trailers or make any real power, and living on a farm, I need to have a vehicle that I can work all day and still drive to town when I'm done. The dodge was a great little pickup (1983 ram 2wd), and was still running great when I sold it, but just didn't have the power I needed. The Chevy was a freakin' joke and I won't even go there.. same as the Chrysler (will never own another Chrysler, jeep, dodge as long as I live!) The Fords however give me reliability, power, comfort and are just the better choice out of anything else I have had. I guess what I am trying to say is that I own Fords because of reliability and performance. Hard to beat that 4x4 300-six 5-speed combo on a small farm like ours.
Did I mention I used to be a die-hard Chevy guy until I bought my first Ford, which I still own as a *just in case* vehicle. I can't bring myself to sell it.
