Yes she did just pull in to fuel up, and I did ask her this, It was diesel. Plus she drove about 130 km's after fuelling up. The dipstick look like a normal level but I will drop the oil any way. It was almost due anyway. Now I have to search this site for glow plug and injector removal. Also been trying to find the buzz test in here. no luck yet.

Well, it is entirely possible that she pumped in water laced diesel fuel and the back-firing was the early sign of hydro-locking.

I think it's worth looking at your fuel and perhaps swapping out/making sure your water separator system is actually working. There are a lot of fuel filters for our trucks that don't have the separation feature... If you pull some fuel from the fuel pump into a plastic container give it a few mins to settle and see if you see water in the fuel. It'll look like cloudy bubbles in clear green fuel.

well pulled all glow plugs, now have to charge up batteries to crank over. 4 way flashers on to long yesterday. I have been looking through the tech file but cannot find the buzz test. I tried to get at glow plugs without pulling inner wheel on right side with no luck. Sucks to pull mud flap, chrome fender flare also but alot easier to get at. which post has buzz test..

The buzz test is done with AutoEnginuity or Ford's tool.

Iv heard cheezit mention a mist test while glow plugs are out

not shure about how to do it

but I think you pull the ficm fuse so injectors dont fire and watch for mist out the GP hole from an Injector thats stuck on as someone cranks it over

It was brought up in a blown egr cooler thread about the mist test but I would assume you could do the same for a bad injector thats stuck on

any of you guys ever do a mist test

Ok I just put charged batteries in with glow plugs out and cranked the engine over, alot of fuel comes out of the drivers side glow holes but hardly any thing from the other side. The drivers side fuel sprays out to the fender but the other side has a little trickle come out. any info.

did you pull the ficm fuse
If the ficm off only bad injectors should spray fuel out cause there stuck open right
I also thought you would only see mist out number 4 cylinder GP hole
and cylindert 4 is second cylider back driver side

Just wondering, should there be fuel coming out of all glow plug holes when cranking.

with the ficm fuse still in yes its doing its normal thing firing the injectors trying to start

when you pull that fuse or ficm relay only injectors that are stuck open should spray or mist out the GP hole

I replaced the FICM about a month ago. Just wondering. If I might have a bad unit, Have to test this one I guess. It just seems that the fuel was coming out the exhaust when she was driving the truck. I should put the glow plugs back in and try an start it to see what happens.

if the ficm lost a injector driver it usualy wont fire the injector I suppose it could fail in open position
If its only a month old it could fail but I doubt it you wont be able to test for an bad injector driver only can test ficm volts

I think cylinder 4 injector failed and is dumping fuel threw your system out the tail pipe it sounds like its stuck on FWIW
to me a failed injector just fits the codes you have
