Well I finally got the head off, one of the valves is screwed and the piston is melted to the rings. Think that I might just buy another truck. Would like to post pic. Will try to post one.

tried to post pic's but this site is hard to get around. Do you have to have so many posts before you can do anything here. I think that I might buy a dodge...

If you first upload the pics to your "garage" you can transfer them to a post by copying and pasting the "bb code".

Just wondering if you can remove the oil pan to remove a piston with engine still in truck. In Edmonton rite now to price out my options for repair or replacement.

Ouch. How's the cylinder itself?

The piston is obviously shot.

It has been awhile but the truck is still down. Been to busy to work on it but hopefully will be running soon. Had to order a long block. Head was gone and #4 cyl is out of spec's. Don't know if I can pull the engine out without removing front clip. Already pulled rad and left head and every thing on top of engine.

I believe you will have to...

The motor has to slide out the front, it cant come up and out like a regular car

That sucks. But I guess that is the way it is. Not a very friendly setup.

To pull it out the front, the top radiator support bar comes off, but the rest of the front clip is welded in place.

Just picked up ford bebuilt long block, put flywheel on and it rubs on starter bendix housing and when I turn the crank by hand the bendix engages the flywheel. Engine is still out of truck. Don't know if you can buy shims for the starter. The dealer doesn't seem to know. Maybe someone came across this before.

Interesting. I didn't know there were shims for a Ford starter but maybe there are. One of the tech's should be here before long and I'll shoot one a PM. This really doesn't sound at all right to me.
