My JL C5-570's came in last week. I got the rear speakers (mids/tweets) replaced and ran all new wiring back there yesterday. I doubt I'll do the fronts today, still brainstorming ideas and don't want to rush the job. This took me a good 3 hours to do. I removed the rear seat backs because I had to get my sub out to get to the drivers side panel. That itself took a while and alot of extra work. All the factory wiring and plugs will remain (in the event that I sell the truck) and are wedged/tucked/taped down to prevent any rattling.

Factory vs. JL's:

Much better!

Probably can't see the JL tweeter, but it's in there.

I opted to drill through the harness in the door. There's just enough room to get some 16awg through there.

Much better than the factory "crossovers"

Got the front doors finally done and got everything wrapped up. The front molex connectors are literally impossible to get to without pulling door. Although that looks easy enough, I'm no body man and didn't want to mess with realigning it. I went through just over 100' of 16awg wire to rewire everything. I got my amp and LOC all dialed in last night. I couldn't do the speakers any justice, this is something you have to hear in person. Needless to say, I'm overly satisfied. I tapped into my lockpick harness so the factory connections stayed intact. The lockpick harness to Ford harness colors are at the bottom if anyone needs 'em.

This was about 3 hours into my day yesterday (total job on the fronts was about 5 hours).

New JL tweeters in the pod with the factory one removed. I had to drill some holes in the supplied bracket so that it would mount up.

Turns out the inside of the arm rest in the door panels had plenty of room for the crossovers. I left a good amount of wire available in case I need to pull the panels off, which I already need to do. The speakers had a plastic ring surrounding them that was apparently taped on. They rattle now so I'll be gluing those down.

This is how I ended up doing with the wire to the front doors. I'm not thrilled with it but it'll do until I come up with something else.

Ford/Sync Lockpick harness colors:

Right Front
+ White (Violet stripe) - Lockpick harness = Grey (no stripe)
- White (Orange stripe) - Lockpick harness = Grey (black stripe)

Right Rear
+ Brown (White stripe) - Lockpick harness = Purple (no stripe)
- Brown (Blue stripe) - Lockpick harness = Purple (black stripe)

Left Front
+ White (No stripe) - Lockpick harness = White (no stripe)
- White (Brown stripe) - Lockpick harness = White (black stripe)

Left Rear
+ White (Green stripe) or Brown (Green stripe) - Lockpick harness = Green (no stripe)
- Brown (Yellow stripe) - Lockpick harness = Green (black stripe)

For those of you who installed the 6829s,are the factory tweeters connected somehow to the factory speakers? If so how will they connect to the 6829s?I havent opened up the doors yet so maybe it will make sense when I do.TRying to save myself a headache if possible beforehand.

Yeah, the factory tweeters are pulling from the door speakers.

Check out pages 3 and 4 of the attached pdf, it'll make sense once you pull the door panel off too.

You can see in my pic below where the plug from the head unit plugs into the speaker, then out of the speaker into a pathetic excuse of a crossover, and into another plug for the tweeter to plug into.

I don't have the 6829's so I can't say how they plug in, but the factory speakers are setup in that manner (tweeter pulling from door speaker).

My JL's have a crossover so I have the + and - from the head unit into the crossover, then from the crossover there's 2 pairs of +/-, one for the door speaker and one for the tweeter. Here's a pic (didn't have the input side hooked up yet, but for reference purposes).

Nice, I plan on speaker upgrades if we get some warm weather, otherwise it will probably be Spring.

Plastic gets brittle when it's cold. I'd wait for warmer weather depending on where you're located.

Probably a good idea to wait.

I just lost my right front channel. Zero sound coming from the mid or tweeter. I'm really hoping it's not the amp... And it's unbelievably annoying not having it up and running, it's like my ear's clogged!
