My 2011 Navigation with 'Premium Sound' is the worst sound I've had in a Ford Vehicle in a long time. Coming from the 2008 Navigation with AUDIOPHILE Sound System, the 2011 sound system is a big step down.
$1800 system that sounds like a $150 radio.
It is not pleasant to have to shell out well over $1000 to get the sound up to a respectable level that is tuned for the Super Duty interior.
You can get them a bit cheaper on ebay which is where I'll buy them, but Crutchfield gives you the wiring adapter and install stuff for your specific vehicle for free (wiring adapters are around $8 online) According to Crutchfield, the rears will accept 6X8 same as the fronts.
Just placed my order for 2 sets of these bad boys. Got the second set for half off. I got them from crutchfield just so I could get the harness. Thanks for the help.
I wonder how hard it is to get the rear speakers out?

Sound quality aside, what do you think of sync & the nav? I've used sync once or twice and I think it's pretty awesome.

I found this:
Flip up the cover on the seatbelt that is the same color as the interior plastic
Remove the Torx Bolt that acts as the seatbelt anchor.
With a quick movement pull on the top of the panel. Work your way down until you can get at the rear speakers.
Remove the 4 hex head screws that hold in the speaker and disconnect the wiring harness.
I bought some connectors at Best buy so I didn't have to cut the connector off and wire up female spade terminals. If you want to go this route ask for "factory speaker connector to aftermarket speaker terminals" They have them back in the garage they do the installs in and they run about $11 a pair.

My first experience with the Navi went like this:
Set destination
Take exit as unit tells me to
Take left off exit per unit
drive 5 miles until unit declares we have arrived at our destination...look at big field and determine this is not correct.
Turn on .99 cent iPhone GPS app, enter destination, turn around and drive back to exit and head right off exit per .99 cent iPhone GPS app.
Drive 1/2 mile and arrive at correct destination.
doing some more research on the 2011 system before upgrading, but it needs some help for sure. I had q-forms kick-panels and jl audio custom sub in my 07 supercab, it sounded great.
I used to have an F150 with the "audiophile" system. That sounded great and the subwoofer was pretty powerful (not sure what size it was).
Already been shopping for speakers to replace the ones in the doors of my F250 (I'm leaning towards Infinity). Haven't decided if I am going to do anything with the subwoofer yet. It just doesn't sound as good as what I hade in my '06 F150. Going to get in there tomorrow, see what size it is, and then look at my options. Has anyone looked at the sub or it's box and have any info on it?
I am going to take a crack at replacing the front door speakers this weekend and maybe slap a little Dynamat in there at the same time. While I will have the door panels off, I will also install my Jimmi Jammers. Does anyone know if the plastic liner for the door panels is easily re-installed if I can cut/remove carefully or am I just out of luck if I want dynamat? I already did the door seal mod, so layers for noise deadening surely cannot hurt.
I am going to do my upgrades in phases, mostly due to available budget. I am going to install some JL Audio speakers in the front doors for now. Later, I plan to move these JL speakers to the rear locations and then install some Focal separates in the front doors when I add the amp and the sub.
I do have the factory sub in there now, but it will be removed and replaced with a custom box I already have that many others have used for the 2011 with a rear power slider. I have the shallow-mount JL sub for this box also, just waiting a little while to buy the amp and the Focals.

The plastic liner is tuff stuff and the adhesive is such that it is easy to remove and reapply. Easy to cut with a razor too. I bought some Dynamat with the intention of installing it, but when I had the door apart the factory sound deadening material on the back of the door panel looked very good (much better than any I've seen in awhile) so I opted to leave it as is. I would consider a sealed, flexible speaker baffle in the future though.

I would think that changing out speakers, especially the sub woofer, we need to know that the stock radio has enough power to push the new speakers or sub woofer??

That's why you buy 2 ohm speakers. They are so efficient that even low power will make them sound great.
Just picked up 2 pair Infinity Kappa 6x8 components with tweeters and all the wiring for $ 575 from Crotchfield. Plan to use my old Punch amps to power them. Now to save up for that Kicker Warhorse sub amp.
I agree. These speakers in a premium sound system are a piece of junk. I just replaced the four speakers in the crew cab last weekend. Very easy to do, but haven't wired up the rear door tweeters again yet. They are run off of the rear panel speakers.
Anyone know where the amp is? I'm interested in replacing the sub and adding more power to the mains. Thinking of upgrading the tweeters too, but not sure if it will help much
So I've been doing some more research on this system...just was wondering a few things...I've read that the Lariat sound system has 8 or 9 speakers (conflicting info from 2 different sites). Where the heck are they? Or are they just regular speakers with tweeters? Also, where is the factory sub located? Maybe my eyes are just fatigued but I've been searching around with no luck. Not sure how similar it is to previous years.
