I don't have the HA installed on the new camper as of yet but with or old camper I felt like the bars were pulled too far past horizontal. The trailer rode flat but the bars did not. That's what I'm trying to get away from but the new camper sits a bit higher at the hitch when level than the old so I may be in good shape just want to have some options if need be.
The HA is a little different than most WD setups and one of those differences is that the ends of the bars do typically bend up past level, its completely normal and acceptable for an HA. It's more important to keep the hitch heads as level as possible to allow for proper articulation between the upper and lower units.
Look at how far up my bar ends are here, that's how they always are when loaded, have been tensioned like that for over 30K towing miles. Attachment 280687
Hi , we are Conny and Markus from germany. We need your help, pls. We have a F350 - 172 SD Crew cab DRW 4x4 from 1999 with 11200lbs. Pls see attached photo it's my chevy with the cabin. Now we need a camper package to increase our total gross weight. Before we order the camper package could somebody tell us what includes the package , which parts I mean. Also very important for our "technical inspection authority" in germany we need to know if we get a certificate or something similar , where explicit registered , that the pick up then is allowed with a bigger gross weight then before.
Our problem here in germany is , that the truck is to heavy with the cabin. We know that is not a problem for the truck but for the german authority we need a written confirmation that the truck is allowed have a gross weigth with the cabin over the 11200lbs. Without we are not allowed to drive and we want to go to Sweden to the biggest US CAR meeting.
I hope you can understand what I mean because my "technical" english is'nt perfect.

I have found you need to set the stinger angle to compensate for the tongue weight and have the head at the same angle. When you draw the jacks up the head lifts and puts the WD on the front axle. My bars are pretty parallel after I crank it up 26 turns each.

I guess things are a little different between the HA and PP then, the HA doesn't have the ability to adjust the stinger angle, it's a fixed solid steel unit. Those are 1400lb spring bars fully cranked with 1840lbs of TT tongue weight in my picture.
I didn't realize that the PP adjustable stinger has the ability to tilt the head like a typical WD setup, pretty cool!

Great to know! I really appreciate the information. Our bars were not quite that extreme with a 9.5k trailer behind it. The new TT is longer and heavier so I feel much better about it!

I need to get a pic but when you set up the PP you adjust the hitch angle, it actually comes with a mushroom stud that you put in the stinger mount to angle the stinger down and once set you tighten it. This is only done during initial setup of the hitch.

Greetings from cold Germany Conny und Markus
I don't know if it will help or not but page 30 of this PDF from Ford shows the GVWR of 11,200 pounds.
If you look at the stinger and hitch there is a gap at the top of the hitch mount and the top and bottom bolt holes are slotted. You put the mushroom in the lower part of the hitch mount to angle the stinger up. Note: The hitch mount can be turned up or down to allow adjustment and lower ground clearances.
Yeah, I would really like to have an adjustable stinger, but Hensley doesn't offer one at all. I guess that is one of the "new and improved" aspects of the PP over the older HA design.

I'd "like" to have one, but I don't "need" one and I am Super Cheap, so I'll stick to what I currently have as the 4" drop stinger I have matches the lifted EX and TT perfectly.
I had read elsewhere that Sean's shop was maxxed out there for a long while keeping up with PP orders and wasn't actually producing any of the HA adjustable stingers, sounds like a pretty good "problem" for him to have!
1/2 day of work left and we are off to Charleston tomorrow, first trip of the year!!! I had a scare this AM, my phone said 25 degrees. I ran outside to check the dewinterized camper and cut the heat on to 40. When I looked at the thermometer on the porch it was 35 degrees. Whew.

We really like what's left (after hurricane Hugo) of Old Town Charleston, some very cool houses with awesome courtyards! The guys also enjoyed the USS Yorktown at Patiots Point. Enjoy the trip!
I plan to rewinterizing our TT either today or tomorrow, we have left a small electric heater on inside it since we returned home, has gone as low as 27*, but with the cabinet doors open everything has been good so far.
