ProPride or the HA is the way to go, it is an investment. My Ex pulls my 33' camper like a dream. When I pull my 24' hauler without the PP and just regular weight distribution I really have to be on my toes as it pulls differently.
A big yes to trying to find a PP or HA on the used market, I found mine on CL seven years ago for $600, there are deals out there, be patient and ready to strike when the show up on the market!
Too expensive at about $2150...over my budget unfortunately.
Yeah, they are expensive. The good thing about the hitch is they can be moved from trailer to trailer. After white knuckled trips it was a small price for my families safety and my sanity.
Like posted above, keep your eye on Craigslist and be ready to pounce. I found my Hensley near Sacramento for $300 and paid to have it shipped to Ohio which was an additional $250. Im very happy with the function on the hitch and actually pulled it apart yesterday to replace the bearings/seals. Picking them up in 1/2 an hour. Will post pics later today.
When I looked at Bowling Green all of the campgrounds seemed to be closed until April.
We are staying at the BG KOA, its open with limited office hours and only a handful of campers, but decent sites for being a little close together.
There is a pretty cool county park right across the street with a nice lake and the Aviation Heritage Park that has several jets on display T-38, F4, F9F, F-111, T-33A (F-80 Shooting Star trainer) and a UH-1 Helo. You are welcome to walk all around the jets and run your grubby hands on them, very cool to me as a warbird buff and our son who is currently a student pilot.
Nashville tomorrow and the Opry in the evening, Mamouth Cave looks like Wednesday. I'm not really a Vette guy, but I would like to take the production plant tour someday, unfortunately they are not running tours right now (or the last time we were down here.....). Hoping to get some horseback riding in before we head back home.
We want to go back to Nashville. There is good food there, awesome Music and American Pickers store (never been there). Looking at next March, in 2 weeks we are Charleston bound.
We towed our 26' TT from the Philadelphia burbs to Tybee Island, GA last week, over 1600 miles round trip. I've become very frustrated with the towing experience, as I experience a TON of push/pull from passing trucks/cars and with any side winds despite proper loading, tire pressures, Hellwig rear bar, new Bilstein shocks, 5+ degrees of front caster, etc. Up until this past trip I used a Reese Dual Cam hitch, which I wasn't overly impressed with. I found an Equal-i-zer on CL and we used it for this trip....it was MAYBE slightly better, primarily with the weight distribution-but not much better with regard to the wind and getting pushed around. This truck (2005 V10 4x4) is almost white knuckle at times with the TT behind it. I found a used Hensley which I'm trying to convince the wife we need. It's either that or I'm getting rid of this damn truck, lol.
HA or PP is the only way to tow with an excursion in my opinion. Not worrh it to try without it.
