It's a '50.

I'm sure ND will fill in some blanks.

1950 it is. 1949's have FORD letters on the hood, different parking lights and bezels, different trunk handle.

The chrome bezel surrounding the '50's hood emblem is MIA.

How about the Merc?
Impossible to ID, because this Merc isn't "as original."

1946/48: The rectangular parking lamps were mounted on the R/L fender extension panels next to the hood, above and to the R/L of the Mercury grille emblem.

The rear fender stone deflectors were ribbed black rubber.

1946: Painted grille surround, one year only hubcaps.

1947: Chrome grille surround, Mercury nameplates on the hood sides, different hubcaps than 1946.

1948: See 1947.

After WWII ended, there was a HUGE pent up demand for new vehicles, as none had been assembled since February 6, 1942.

1946/48: GM (excepting 1948 Cattle-hacks and Olds 98's), FoMoCo, Nash, ChryCo saw no need to make yearly styling changes, there were only subtle trim changes, but...

There is no way to tell a 1946 Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth or Imperial from a 1947 or 1948. 1946 DeSoto's had a one year only hood front emblem, 1947/48 DeSoto's are identical.

I have another question, hope this isn't too dumb, why do some of these plates have the letter before the numbers and some have the letter after the #s? I know of 3 other 65's here which two of them have the letters at the end of the #s (one with E and one with F, I believe) and the 3rd one has the letter before the #. AND, do the #s themselves mean anything?Any thoughts.
Thanks

71 years ?

I don't think the rose decal on the wing window is original though.
