Do you know the reason why Henry said that?

Black was his favorite color.

Dries quicker?

Speed was of the utmost in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

Interesting that when he said that, he had already been making cars for 7 years, and none of them were black. Green, gray or red, but no black ones.

Prior to 1924, vehicles were not painted, they were varnished. One entire floor of the Highland Park plant was devoted to varnishing Model T's.

It took about 24 hours for one coat of varnish to dry, but all T's had two coats. When Henry Ford discovered that black varnish dried the quickest, he made his famous statement.

Enamel paint (Duco) invented by DuPont, a major shareholder of GM. First car to be painted with Duco: 1924 Oldsmobile.

In 1925, almost everyone including FoMoCo was using Duco, T's were now available in colors other than black.

I will never understand how engines can breathe through a air cleaner like that, I see no snorkel or inlet of any kind.

I think the same engine here in a '59 Fairlane.

Nice pic's to revive this thread. Lower hood profile equals lower profile style air cleaner.
Pretty custom looking piece.
Neat to see such a simple designed engine.
Spark plug gapper, timing light, and some sandpaper for the points gap and you're good to go.

Oil bath air cleaners shown in post 160, this '59 air cleaner uses a paper filter.

Here's an engine out of a 63 Galaxie although originally not the OEM or even available at that time.
A bit spruced up with some work done.
