I have a new problem. I have been having squirrels trying to nest under the hood of my F-250 and chewing on the wires. Does any1 have any ideas how I can put a stop to this, short of tieing my cat to the engine over night?

My brother had his wifes cat living in his fan shroud, til one day he had to go to work early one cold morning. Talk about flying fur .
Cayenne pepper does wonders on those varmets. Try to be around to watch the reaction when they get into some!
The cat under the hood is good till a cold morn start...... poor mommy cat got her tail dehaired.....but now its growing back and she WILL NOT go back under a hood now.
Another thing I use is catch a black snake or rat snake, let them go under the hood, the smell of the snake will drive mice and rats away, and probly squirrels too. Had a chance to pick up a 5' rattler with 7 buttons today, but I ain't going to mess with that one.
Back in 1983 I was riding in my friends 1981 F150; truck was running fine all day until dusk when he turn on the headlights. This is when it got interesting, the whole electrical system shorted out. We were just lucky to coast into a service station. A squirrel had nested under the hood and practically chewed all the insulation off all the wires on and around the 300 ci motor. It was a mystery why the system had not shorted before cutting on the lights.
Severals hours and 3 rolls of electrical tape and we were back on the road again.
Moral of the story-don't park your truck under an oak tree, especially for several weeks during squirrels nesting season.
