I have a 2000 expedition with the 5.4L and a squirrel got under the hood and chewed up some wires that run to the pcm along with some vacuum lines. I got all the wires I seen spliced back together. I drove it yesterday for the first time and my check engine light came on. I pulled a p1744 a trans solenoid for torque converter lock up. The fluid isnt low and looks bright red on dipstick. It drives and shifts fine. Is there a certain wire from the pcm harness I need to look at first? I dont usually get much help on expedition forum.
Yes, there is a control lead.
The computer operates the torque converter same as for all the other solenoids for shifting.
Has nothing to do with the fluid condition or level..
I'm not surprised you don't get much help other than hear say or guessing.
Other forums and boards are very poor overall..
The newer the vehicle the worse it gets because of the advancements in technology.
Good luck.
Does anyone know the color of the wires that would control the torque converter solenoid
If it has the 4R100 the TCC solenoid gets battery voltage from pin 1 (violet w/white stripe) and the control side is via pin 4 (violet w/yellow stripe).
I have the 4r100 and looked at the connector that goes into trans. There are no purple wires at all and the spot on the plug thats labeled #1 is empty. I also noticed the rear of the trans pan has fluid leaking out and its all over the cross brace too. Im guessing I should change pan gasket? The truck has 191000 miles and theres a sticker under the hood that says trans was last serviced at 96k

That's the wrong connector. That's the connector for the DTR sensor.
I have a purple wire with white stripe on the big plug that goes to the ecm that was chewed up by the squirrel,is that the same purple/white wire that goes to the 12 pin plug at the trans? Also if all the wires are good im guessing the next step is to drop trans and replace torque converter and tcc solenoid?

No. The violet/white stripe wire in pin #1 of the 12-pin connector is a 12-volt power feed to the tranny solenoids. Do you have 12 volts at that pin with the key in the run position?
You also need to ohm out the violet/YELLOW stripe wire that runs from pin #4 of the 12-pin connector up to pin #54 of the 104-pin PCM connector. (The PCM uses this wire to activate/deactivate the TTC solenoid so it must have continuity.)
For the TCC solenoid to function it must have 12 volt power and a PCM supplied ground.
I read on one of the f150 forums that I could just replace the tcc solenoid on the 4r100, but when I dropped the pan I noticed a solenoid pack instead of a single solenoid. I ordered the tcc solenoid from rock auto and it is only the tcc solenoid. Can i pull the solenoid pack off and just replace the one solenoid? Also does it just unbolt and come off or do I have to unplug it somewhere first?
I installed a new solenoid block and when I plugged the electrical plug back in it wont clip back in to place. I pushed it in as hard as I could and the clip wont engage. Its not broke or anything. Any ideas?
