Hello all, some squirrels have damaged the wiring in the intake valley. They have chewed the wires, right up to the connectors, for #1-turbo WG solenoid, #2-back of fuel filter hsg (water detection?), #3-at bottom of HPOP. My Ford DVD does not make connector ID too easy, so I'm guessing somewhat. All 3 connectors are two-wire.
So, I need to repair the connectors and pigtail into the harness. The dealer can get me #1 and #2 with pigtails at $45 each (!). I have disassembled these AMP connectors and really need only the terminals (AMP #PBT-GF15 I think). Worst case I could salvage what's there. Any one know where to get terminals or connectors?
#3 is the problem...this is near the bottom of the HPOP, on driver side in the rear. The connector has a wire bale that is flipped up to unplug. No marks on connector, terminals different than other two. Tried but failed (for now) to get terminals out. Does anyone know of a source for these terminals or connectors? Or, how to remove terminals?
Is it reasonable that one/all of these broken connections would cause a crank but no start condition?
#3 sounds like the ipr which would explain a no start. Don't know where to get the pigtails. Hopefully it did not short out and cause bigger problems. Probably want to check all your fuses as well. Hopefully others can help you find the parts. International also sells a lot of pigtails.
For the price of the connectors/wire damage/electrical tape, I would look around for a used wire harness out of a blown truck or bone yard. I have seen harness go on ebay for $100. None there to find now. I quickly Looked. For the whole engine bay. Hate to see you chasing wiring issues for ever.
Thanks to all for your reply. Grant, thanks for the great link and for helping me ID the IPD - that's the #3 connector. I parked the truck after a season of towing, and then found this problem. So, hopefully, the fault is only the wiring.
I'm pretty sure that the #2 is the fuel filter heater t-stat/water detector (is this only a two wire connection?). What about #1? This is a valve/solenoid that has a red and green tube connection - one to the intake bellows between the air filter and turbo, and the other (red) to the turbo waste gate. I can't find this on the Ford DVD...
Any help to ID these #1 and #2 will be appreciated. Thanks, Bob
It sounds like you are on track for #1 and #2. The one on the bottom of the fuel bowl is also for the fuel bowl heater. You can run it with that one unplugged for now. Just make sure it is not shorting out. I think it is fuse #30 that will blow and also same circuit as the wait to start light and causes a no start as well.
IIRC, the IPR, Injectors and the EPR solenoid (on pedestal) share the same type of pigtail with the wire bail clip. I have an old injector harness from an Int'l 530E engine that could rob a pigtail from if you need it. PM me with your address and I can send you one.
