I need to remove the hood from my '84 F-150. Noticed there are actually 2 hinges..One from the firewall to the hood..the other from the hood to the inner fender..(with the spring). There HAS to be a correct way...and an ..."Oh, $XXT way"...Experts... please weigh in ...thanks..jv
drill a small hole through the hinge into the hood at the hinge that goes to the firewall that way you can use the drill bit to line the hood back up. take the spring ones loose first then the other ones.
One person works the ratchet while the 2 others hold the hood on either side. Don't forget the ground strap from the hood to the firewall on the passenger side.

I would mark where the hinge lines up on the hood with a sharpie marker instead. Drill holes can lead to rust issues later, in my opinion.
To the orignial poster, be aware that once you take one of the springs off the hood, it will no longer stay in the open position. Two people to do this job is highly advised.
I've marked where the hinges are now..So...To be sure...Remove the hinges from the firewall first..then the spring hinge from the fender..Correct..???..Thus leaving both hinges on the hood for reinstalling. I will have 2 helpers...
Sorry..Got that backwards...Mark the hinge positions..Unbolt the firewall hinge from the hood..then ..unbolt the spring hinge from the hood...while my 2 friends hold it !!!..Install...bolt spring hinge first...or the firewall hinge ????
Leave the Hood hinges on the firewall. Do not loosen them at the firewall, otherwise you will have to alighn them again. The hood can be adjusted up or down, foward or backwards and left to right.
Just loosen the bolts where it attaches to the hood.
Loosen the entire hood without taking the bolts out. Springs and hinges. Be aware that the hood will move on it's "adjustments".
Completely unbolt the spring supports first. Someone will have to hold the hood up as you do this as the springs support the hood when open.
Then completely unbolt the hood hinges. Your helper can take his bolts out on his/her side while supporting the hood with his/her free hand.
Have your helper on the opposite side of you, supporting the hood on his/her side, while you support the hood on your side with your free hand.
Perfectly said.
When putting it back on, line up the lower part as close as practical and get at least one bolt per side snugged down, then put the springs back on. This will hold the hood up, while making sure the hinges are lined up exactly. The bolt that previously snugged down, can be loosened a bit to allow the hood to be moved around to get the final adjustment. Even then, use caution when closing/opening the hood the first time, to make sure it clears, and fits like it should.
