Morning Pat. Working today?

I was planning to work on my truck today. But awoke to rain, so that may not happen.

Morning Bill. Yep, getting some things done here today. I'm working a 6-10's schedule, until April 10th, then I go to 12's, and work Sundays instead of Saturday. What are you doing the truck?

Oil change, fuel filters, and flush the power steering unit. Just routine stuff.

Have you flushed the hydro boost before, Bill?

Good morning everyone. Had the same thought bill - rainy maintenance... or hope it's dry tomorrow. How is everyone today?

The radioactive plume should have arrived by now... although supposedly the rain might help knock some of it out of the atmosphere.

Steve, the job is good. Except for the commute and my work schedule precluding a social life... it's great. I'm married though... so it's not actually a problem. I'm already working on helping the wife th understand that an employee discount on a huge cabinet with full set of tools is merely a 'wise investment'. (She still needs convincing, but hasn't mentioned the word 'no'.)

I'm happily exhausted. I go to work before anyone else is off work... and get home from work after last call. My hours precludes having much of a social life (I go to work before anyone else is off work... and get home from work after last call) but it at least keeps me out of trouble. Getting as much overtime as I can responsibly handle, and there's no sign of it slowing down.

The only real draw back is that I might start driving the little car to save fuel and miles on the 250. I have to admit, except for the fuel cost... I love driving that truck on the freeway.

May have gotten into it on my way home with a supercharged import. Roasted the lil guy from a rolling start a couple times. He finally took me by half a car length on the last run before hitting his exit, but it seems like he was probably on the juice it for that last run. (I'm having to come to terms with the fact that Cobalt SS beat me at the top end ... but I suspect a parts call to Clay will cheer me up.)

Figured out a few things too: it will actually down shift on it's own in race mode... I just hadn't ever been hard enough on it yet. The waste gate opening up makes a neat sound. I still need to track down an exhaust leak and it apparently runs much much better when it's been run hard.

Looks like it was just an early sprinkle and I can still get some work done before it really starts raining.

Had it done by the dealer at about 35k miles, but have not done it myself. I plan to just suck the resevoir dry, then refill-start the truck-turn lock to lock, then suck it dry again and repeat until I've got most of it out. I am not planning to break open the lines. Maybe I will search around here to see what others have done.

The break-open-the-lines part is simple.

Remove the return line at the top of the hydroboost, and run clear tube to bucket.

Lift front-end off ground for ease. Run engine and slowly turn lock-to-lock, pumping brakes at same time, while you keep reservoir full. Don't turn steering too fast, as you can over-pressure the front steering dampener, causing a leak.

Takes about three quarts (four to be sure) and an assistant inside truck.

Half an hour job. Best results from Mobil 1 ATF, but Kalifornia has banned the sale here. I got some before...

I pulled that line, Pop. Really easy to get to. A 3/8 I.D. hose will fit nicely. I think that's what I will do. Thanks! (you added a link which I will go check out now)

Fluid is the problem. I only learned this week that Mobil 1 was pulled from the shelf. That's what I really wanted to use, and now not sure what I want. Really wanted a full synthetic. Gonna have to browse the aisles and see what we are permitted by our masters to use.

Steve, do you want to do yours? Want to get together and do both our trucks?

Mine is definitely due, and since it's a two man operation that sounds like a great idea. We can do yours first

Can't swing it today. How about tomorrow if the weather holds?
