5th wheel Prep Package hole cover trouble
#16
On delivery my plugs were not installed. I had Line-X sprayed and after a couple of weeks I installed the rings and plugs myself. The rings were a $!tch to get in place but they're supposed to be permanent so that's OK. The plugs are pretty easy to get in/out so I can see dragging how stuff over would knock them out.
I'd try the RTV route (maybe something from Permatex - permanent gasket goo) first, tho the metal plugs look nice.

I personally didn't want trash, leaves, bolts, nuts, etc falling in those holes for me to clean out when needed. I have tool boxes in my bed and I am always in the back of the truck walking around the plugs. The plastic ones just would get knocked out by my boots and then got to the point where they would just come out on their own and would be lying in the bed after just driving down the road. I didn't feel that securing those plastic ones would've been the best solution for me. And I didn't want the open holes either.
Here is the site where I purchased mine:

I even called to speak with the gentleman that created them. He simply was tired of his popping out too and had other people that slid tools, wood, etc in and out of the bed and were tired of re-installing those plastic ones.

Well, that sucks to hear. I don't think he was a member or contributor here. I guess I will keep mine forever as long as I own a Ford.

Double or triple ditto... Rubber bed mat and I kept the rubber plugs in, underneath it. My 2011 had the spray in, scuff your knees up liner. (or rub holes in your Jeans) so the rubber mat prevented that as well. My current truck didn't have the prep kit or spray in liner, but I still use the rubber bed mat.

Yes this is an OLD thread and this company seems to have gone out of business. I'm looking for something like this...
I just got these receiver caps, they are specifically made for the tow prep package. They bolt in place, no worries of them popping out. I slide pallets of mortar over them all the time. Here are some pics, I got the powder coated black ones instead of aluminum though.

As I posted on that link, I might just end up cutting some sheet metal patches and attaching them to cover the holes, as flush as possible. It might not be as beautiful as the aluminum jewelry that company made or the similarly nicely machined pieces the guy is thinking of making on the other thread, but they may be good enough to keep small things IN the bed instead of them falling out of it.
