5th Wheel prep vs Goosneck

Ok so there is a 5th wheel prep package and then there is a gooseneck prep package. If a truck has the 5th wheel prep package it does not have the gooseneck ball in the middle correct? I am seeing dealer ordered trucks with usually a 5th wheel prep and not the gooseneck.

I believe fifth wheel prep package comes set up for fifth wheel and gooseneck, with a trailer plug in the bed. The gooseneck kit comes with the gooseneck ball and I think some hooks for your chains. There is also a hitch kit that comes with the ford fifth wheel hitch for around 1200$ on the 18k hitch.
You need the prep kit for the other two to work.

Rob, the gooseneck option you're seeing is for the ball itself along with the hooks for safety chains. There is only one prep package and it's for both 5th and GN...

Here is the prep package with a B&W hitch. You can see the puck underneath where a ball would go.

Quick question I've never been clear on. I ordered the factory 5th wheel prep but not the actual 5th wheel hitch or gooseneck hitch. What all comes with this? Does a 5th wheel prep include the hole for the gooseneck or do I need to drill the center hole in the bed and buy a cover?

The 5th wheel prep comes with all the holes in the bed (including the one for the GN ball) and the plugs for said holes, as well as the 7 pin connector in the back of the bed. No need to drill any holes.

It doesn't come with any hitches or *****.

The GN kit comes with the ball and hooks for the chains.

Thanks. That's what I was expecting but wasn't 100% sure about the gooseneck hole.

Thanks everyone that is what I was hoping to hear and Epic's question answered my other one. I knew the specified kits were either gooseneck or 5th wheel but didn't know if it was set up for both.

This helps out a lot as I was looking for a specific gooseneck package on trucks and only saw one truck set up that way. It is really nice that it also comes with that plug in the bed!

Funny now when I go fill up my F150 I am always looking at what diesel prices are too...lol Right now diesel is in between regular unleaded and premium I think it was $2.55/gal.

Does the B&W Companion fit the Ford prep connections or only the Reese? How easy is the B&W to take out?

The Ford prep IS Reese. Same thing as Reese makes the Ford prep. 30 seconds to take any hitch that fits in or out...

Ok B&W guys. CCSB offset forward or backwards? Is it ok to turn the hole hitch base around?

Remember B&W shoppers, they are the tallest hitch in the industry. Too tall for my current 2012 and way too tall for a 2017 and my RV. Mind you, I agree that they are probably the best made hitches out there but their overly tall height is a consideration not to be ignored.

Perhaps one day B&W will offer an alternative set of vertical arms for the head, those could be shorter. It would be very simple for them to do.

I will add that my B&W hitch worked well for me on my 2012 250 and my Montana fiver. I havent got my 2017 yet but based on the clearances i have now, I don't see that I'll have a problem getting mine level. I'm going to go with B&W again.

I may call them on that. If they keep things as is, I'd be 4-5" nose high with their current hitch and a 2017 though.
