yeah, probably coolant and oil

i ran my old 466 with a huge hole in a piston for ,onths day in and out, and that kind of sold me on durability with them. it did however die one day while doing ridiculous doughnuts. maybe not the best idea with a half dead motor, but it was fun.

p.s. diesels are teh ghey. if i wanted a sluggish motor that could be worked hard and get 15 mpg i'd buy a straight six truck at pennies on the dollar compared to the oilbuners.

you forgot about the fuel leaks.

back when i bought the 88, diesel was only something like 35 cents a gallon, when gas was over $1.20 a gallon.
and that oil-burner regularly got over 20mpg on the highway when not towing. unfortunately, it had 17,000 lbs hooked to it more often than it was empty, but still got on average around 12 mpg with a combined total weight of 27,000 lbs

I've missed out on so much of this conversation, so forgive me if I'm flogging a dead horse, but the thing people seem to neglect is the fact that, yes a (good) diesel engine can realistically last 1,000,000 miles. However, the pickup truck it's in typically does not. Therefore, (& I've owned and driven a few deez-holes in my short time) I think they belong in sem-in-ies, tractors and anything else that literally works for a living (ie from "A" to "B" = working or on it's way, every trip it makes). Pickups do not need them, the cool factor is one thing but really, the gasoline engine has filled the pickup truck niche.

Just to bring the wrath of hatred down on me even more, I pretty much feel the same way about "super" & "crew" cabs. Real pickups have 1 row of seating and just enough room behind the bench to do almost nothing with. Go buy an Altima or a Focus to drive the kids around in....

That's supposed to be "haters" not "hatred".

Also forgot to mention I was ranting about actual working pickups, not the sliced up surgically enhanced antiques we go fight trees and hippies with. In that instance, "the more the merrier" and then I can see the utilitarian side of a supercab, & nothing says party wagon like a chopped down crew cab on 44's that is buried rockers deep in what used to be a pond

Dam, I like my crew, more people to scare when I'm wheeling, and my extended cab is nice to put stuff in the back seat.

Dan is a tool for talkin wheeling talk, but not wheeling.

well, they DO make tool boxes, but for a dude in say, construction that might be a foreman, I don't have an issue. Besides, that's just my opinion. Anyway, that would be a "working" vehicular, plus you used the magic word. You haul a "crew", that's what it was made for ...& are your stepkids old enough to be working on a crew?

but seriously, I get so sick of hearing (no emphasis intended on Joe) "Joe-schmoe" driving his superduty on 35's with a crewcab full of kids, whining about the price of gas, yet his unneccesarily big @rse truck is a "family vehicle"...that thought process is EXACTLY why the bronco got turned into a 4x4 4 door v-8 mini van, and the f-150 is now a car with a large open trunk. Just sayin...
