Yea, the iPhone is purdy ironic. But it's actually cost efficient. $60 a month for my phone and Internet, or $30/month for landline and again for dialup service to a computer I don't have... Lame

I need to start condensing my posts so I'm not leaving a million consecutive ones like an r-tard. On a brighter note, I just won a Sauer Danfoss steering unit on fleabay for $130. If I ever figure out how to post pics from this infernal device I might just have to start my own super ultra mega slow build thread.

[quote=blucollar4xford;10043860]I'm just kinda thinking out loud now. But there again, that's my opinion. I just think soccer moms/dads need a minivan At best for the kids. It's the mentality that "I NEED a 4x4 to haul my family, the dog, and a giant cupholder for the goldfish" that irks me. Trucks are work vehicles, & truthfully I don't think EVERYONE needs a 4x4. Trucks have been around a lot longer than 4x4's or super/crew cabs and were still very useful and very versatile. If people started buying to suit their needs instead of their ego (again, my opinion...and I'm not neccessarily throwing rocks at anyone here.) I think "trucks" would start coming back and these luxury yuppified soccer mommy land yatchs with everything but the kitchen sink would be put in check.
I really get a kick out of the options on the new model year trucks and the bs that goes with it. For instance, I cannot go buy a brand new (or even year old, I believe) f150 standard cab long bed 4x4 with painted bumpers and a black interior. I'll even splurge a little and opt for the exoboost....well, sadly (& for some strange reason unbeknownst to me) this plain jane work truck (with a little extra pep) does not exist. honestly, I don't NEED a 3/4 ton (though I could justify it) but a simple light duty work truck just doesn't exist anymore, unless you basically want a fleet truck....Sorry about the rant, I could go on for days.

Anyway, as long as you admit that "cool factor

i realize you say this wasnt aimed at anyone but you quoted me so here goes. i dont need to defend myself to you but i dont believe my ol '97 qualifies as one of these new pimped out trucks. yeah its lifted and has bigger tires and arent needed for everyday driving but its helpful when the dirt roads get bad where we hunt and the places i haul mudders to. but as far as what everyone needs is completely up to them. according to your theory everyone would have own multiple vehicles for various uses such as at least 1 minivan for hauling kids, 1 truck for work reasons if they need to haul plywood or any other building supplies, 1 4x4 or AWD family type vehicle if they live in bad weather areas. Geez this is starting to get awful fudging expensive. God forbid they have one vehicle that can cover all these uses by itself. Lets see just for me and my three person family to fit our needs i need 1 car non 4wd or awd for daily use and hauling the baby, 1 small suv 4wd / awd for winter use, 1 gas model truck for hunting and toting small loads such as plywood and lumber, 1 diesel truck for hauling toys and campers. seems pretty damn ignorant to pay for 4 vehicles when our 2 will cover everything we do. 1 explorer 4wd and my truck. Lets face it vehicles have to cover more than use. I do agree I wish the new trucks had a nice mid line that didnt come either pimped out or bone stock but i dont work at ford so i dont get a say, but thats also why i buy older ones cause i like the way they used to make them. sorry for the rant i could go on

Manual is the only true truck transmission. I have 300,000 miles on a M5OD R-2

Fawak that, I don't want to daily drive a sloppy/clunky/huge throw/heavy clutch manual trans every day especially if it's not in a smaller car and useful for "spirited" driving.

SDs have a lower wt/tow rating with a manual trans.

Well it's never bothered me at all. I don't want faking automatic in a truck I use for work and play. I hate driving cars/trucks with slipping trannys.

Automatic belong in cars and minivans

although the C6 is beast, it's still no proper manual trans

Actually te part that was cut off said "as long as you admit 'cool factor is greater than practicality' I've got no beef with people like that" I just sorta went off on a tangent. I also understand you live in west-by-god and 4x4 is almos a prereq to travel anywhere in the state. No, I dont think everyone needs a purpose specific vehicle, ie 20 cars/trucks/vans in the driveway. That's just silly ...I don't expect anyone to care what I think (again) but I'd say given your situation you've got your bases covered in a practical but cool manner. Also, as a 4x4 enthusiast, if you do own a 4x4 but live in town, cool. I can see the sense in having a wheeler/dd in one truck as long as it's safe and practical as not everyone has the cash/time/resources/space for a dedicated toy on 44's with a fire breathing big block.
What I'm getting at is the guy with the kingranch superduty that lives in a housing developement or even a decently maintained rural area and rants about how he needs it to haul the kids to school...kinda like public transportation is nonexistant (not that it is everywhere). Also, the trucks don't get wimpy til 97-up. Also, that you felt the need to "defend yourself" gives me the inkling that people may give a ***** about what I'm saying. But again, I truly am not targeting anyone, and if u think my standard cab 84 is dumb, cramped and/or just plain lame, so be it, I'm cool with that. Btw, nice touch on the end of your post, so mocked me...I like ur style lol. Werd to your mother.

Dan, up to now I could keep up with "FTMFW" and the like. But what is "CSFTMFWW"?

No slippy with lockup tq converters, and with tow/haul on 5r110e and newer they seemlessly downshift on big downhill runs with just a tap of the brake, they've really come a long way and are pretty amazing in how well they work these days.

Don't worry, we don't

I don't think the superduties are wimpy at all. They shat all over the OBS for performance, durability, reliability and you don't hit your head on the roof everytime you hit a damn pothole. I'll concede that the 97-03 F150's were kind of wimpy in some areas, but for any of the other trucks they just keep getting better IMO.

As for DAN, I have no idea either.

ok from the top lol i will always admit that the recent additional lift is going to make it harder to get deer in the bed but small price to pay

in principal i agree with this statement if they wont admit they just plain wanted it they are lying cause there are alot cheaper options to haul kids around than a $50k truck and yes the soccer moms driving trucks now is killing the design of the new trucks meaning you cant get a nice truck that doesnt have a **** ton of options for a decent price

naw i dont i had a 90 reg cab and went to extended cabs just for hunting reasons it got old taking my hunting clothes out every other day

i have been known to be a smartass its actually one of my better qualities i am basically a ***** lol

i dont even know what that one means lol

Charlie Sheen was my hero in "ferris beullers day off"...& that movie is older than i is...where have you been?

Also, to hold tradition with my multi-post habits an to clear my name with the haters who I swore would hate on me:

I'm sorry if I've offended or evoked a guilty feeling from anyone with my "anti-diesel super duty supercrew customcab 4x4 kingranch Harley-Davidson platinum xlt lariat custom explorer ranger fx4 levelVIII centurion svt lightening raptor F650 Supercrewzer yuppymobile rants", I love Joe Schmoe for who he is, not what he drives.

and those of you whining about how cool your superfly schoolbus is, shame on you all...quit making the hatefest all about you, it never was...lest you're a kingranch driving soccermom, in which case, umm...my bad

my take on this.

coil springs beling on cars. not on 4X4 trucks.
if you want the ride of a car, buy a friggin car. a 4X4 truck should drive like a truck.

and as far as the auto verses manual trans thing goes, i wish they wouldconvert all the big trucks to auto trans.
shifting a transmission for 10-12 hrs a day sucks.

They may be able to tow more, but they dont last as long
