The slate shingle my wife lacquered over to make a placque. We're going to put it into our camper, but I'm not sure if I want to attempt drilling a hole in it or not.
Thanks. It's actually the old tennant house at the farm in VA. Got a few clear pics of it.
It was a windy day when I hiked to take pictures of it. Something about the old screen door swinging in the breeze...
Come to think of it, I may have to salvage that door and save it for the day that I build my farm house.
My dad's cousin was talking about tearing/burning the house down. I may try to talk him into using the wood from it to repair the old barn.
My brother in law uses old barn wood to make furniture. I'll see if I can scrounge up a picture of the dining room table he made. It's really cool stuff, but he discovered that there's not much of a market for it. People don't want to pay you for your time and effort, they all think since it's made of old wood it isn't worth a lot of money.

I know old lumber can really eat up saw blades. People don't want to pay anything for any furniture now. That's why IKEA does so well with their crappy laminated MDF furniture. I'd love to stow away some of it to use when I get my own place. I'd rather spend $15 and a few hours making a chair that'll last forever than going to Wally World and buying a cheepo one.

Here's the table my BIL made (and a recent recycle/ dog food bin):
