I don't mind taking a pay cut just to have work, but if it's enough of a hit I might as well get back into sales / customer service and not need a shower when I get home... or spend quite so much maintaining tools. To be honest though, I miss building things for a living.
Most of the leads I've found recently are 2 hrs away, want someone who'll take half the pay to do half quality work or 'prefer' bilingual-Spanish.
(While I was waiting for the rear end to get done on the truck, I walked a few doors down to a metal shop that seemed fairly busy. The guys in the office looked at me like I was from another planet when I greeted them in English, and looked at me like I was an idiot when I asked if they were hiring.) Needless to say, December was a frustrating month for job hunting.
Within 15 mi of my house, more than 5 shops have closed their doors in the last year. It's amazing how much of the manufacturing is moving out of state though, so since I'm fortunate enough to have other experience and training... I'm not ruling anything out.
I've considered starting my own business, but I wouldn't dream of it while still in CA. (I'll revisit this idea in about a year when I get back to the east coast.)
While I've been a little hard headed about searching for work I like... I know when it's time to swallow my pride and start being more open minded about where I look. The unfortunate side effect to being so happily married that I haven't taken much time to make friends of my own... or even make too many new work-related contacts.
That being said, responsibilities don't go away. :-)
Going to check a lead in the a.m. about industrial equipment repair. Wish me luck.
... wow... forgive the long post - got off on a bit of a rant.
That being beside the point... everyone I know who sat through the first two episodes ended up watching the entire first season in a weekend. (If I figure out who ended up with the disks.... and they haven't already loaned them to someone else, you're welcome to them.)
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Sometimes you're encouraged about our country's future when you see something like this.
Specifically, there is an annual contest at Texas A&M University calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term.
This year's term was:
"Political Correctness."
The winner wrote:
"Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."
(This guy has nailed it, don't you think?)
Waiting in LA, I left the lights on, radio, and phone charger in. The radio started turning off and on. "$417!" Quickly unpluged the charger, turned off the radio and tried starting my truck. It barely caught. It's idling now... LOL

This guy contacted me by email last week, and I helped him get signed up here at FTE. I'm glad the 7.3 guys are taking good care of him.
