This tire/wheel combination only weighs a little over 61 pounds. The ProComp 17x9/BFG 315/70 combo I have on there now is pretty close to 80 pounds. Should help the truck get off the line a little quicker.

Did you get the lugs and center caps?

Now you will need to adjust to the new lap times.

No lugs, no center caps...though I wouldn't have used the caps on the front anyway because I like to manually engage the hubs when racing. Should be able to pick up some lugnuts pretty easily if I have to.

I'll be out to Irwindale a couple times before the season opens to get a feel for things...shouldn't be too tough to make the necessary adjustments. No tougher than before, anyways.

Whats the weight to time ratio, 100lbs=.10sec?

For rotating mass vs. dead weight I've heard figures ranging from 1lb = 7.5lbs to 1 lb = 10 lbs. I don't know if 100 lbs of dead weight equals .1 sec or not.

So theoretically if I'm saving say, 72 pounds of rotating weight that could equal up to the equivalent of 720 pounds of dead weight over the old tire/wheel combo. There's no way that'll make the truck .72 faster in the quarter, but I think between that and it's being a shorter tire (30.5" instead of 34.5") it's realistic to expect 2 or 3 tenths.

I suppose if I really wanted to try to figure it out this might help: http://www.mcasco.com/p1rdy.html

But that stuff makes my brain hurt

Yea, I can see the tire making more of a difference due to size than weight.

If you lighten up the total weight, lets say 400lbs, is there a formula for speed in a consistent run at the higher weight?

you know i was told a while ago that a shorter tire will lower you gear ratio slightly. i don't know if its true or not. they have one for stock car racing i have a couple of books with that formula in it. for drag racing i have no idea.

You can plug numbers in to the mph/weight calculator and fiddle around: Automotive Calculators offer to you by Ford Trucks Enthusiasts

They're pretty accurate, but there's so many variables that nothing's gonna give you dead nuts figures. Kinda fun to play around with though.

I don't think the calculator here on FTE takes drive train loss into consideration, so the HP figures are probably high by about 20%.

I suggest we all go visit a mid-west chapter and advise them that it is 85 degrees warm here in So Cal.
