This was originally written 5 years ago, and the pictures were at some point removed from the hosting service.

duraspark conversion

Did my EEC to DS2 conversion yesterday.
It is truly plug and play.
Got my harness from a 1980 f150 with a 302.
I only needed the harness and ICM as I already had the distributor and a coil.
I saw rock auto has repair connectors if anyone needs to repair a harness and the coils and ICM's are cheap there too.
My truck is a 1984 300 6 with a c5 automatic an 8.8 with 3.55 gears

Low voltage to the coil

I finished up my DSII conversion in the spring and it has been running great all summer, but recently I found that the ignition coil has only been getting 4 volts instead of the 9 volts it should have. It still runs good but the only reason I noticed is because my electric choke hasn't been opening all the way (I wired the choke from the coil feed just like I had it with the TFI system). I'm thinking it has something to do with the resistor wire. My question is could the resistor be bad and causing a higher resistance in the circuit? Or maybe something wrong with the ignition switch?
Thanks for any advice!

No, the problem is in wiring the choke onto the resistor. The resistor is sized to carry the ignition, and the ignition only.

This is what I was going to say. I made the mistake of hooking my choke up to the ignition source, and I definitely noticed drivability issues. Hook the choke up to the 7v source on the alternator. Use a volt meter to find the right post.

Try unplugging the choke and see if the voltage changes.

When you're in the junk yard, look for a pre-84 truck. It'll be on the driver's side and connects the distributor, ignition module (bolts to the wheel well (80 - 83) or the fender (pre-80)), and the coil. Two wires also go to the temperature sensor and oil pressure sensor. Not much else in that area so you can't miss it.

Thanks rebel. Will a climactic choke carb work on the DSII? Do I delete the smog pump and extra hoses with the smog pump? The truck I have is an 84 4.9. Thanks for the help and speedy replies!

Yes the hot air choke will work, I wouldn't delete anything that is still working as it should.
If the smog pump was froze up, then I would get rid of it.

I haven't looked at a junk yard yet but i was curious if it would be safe to use something new like this:
Davis Unified Ignition Ford Duraspark Distributors 66720 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing

I would get a new module too.
I like the idea of something new and possibly having the recurve for the economy. Any ideas on better models since i'd like to buy new?

I searched and read trying to get all the info to do it. Then I found your post and just let me say thank you for the detail and pics of how to get this done. It went very well and the truck is running great Thanks !!
I was wondering if you or anyone else has the photos that dyingtolive posted at the beginning of this thread that showed the steps to do this conversion. I'm can't figure out how to do it without photos. I want to convert my 86 F150 4.9 over to the Duraspark II system. I can't find the wiring harness in any of the junk yards. Does anyone sell this harness new? Thank you.
