What have you done to your truck today?
wire inside... that wire eventually wears through and breaks....
How long did it last??
How long did that cheap aluminum one last you? I don't remember if the one I put in was aluminum or not...didn't check the location it was made either. But sure would expect it to last longer than 2 months and ~1000 miles regardless of material or origin!!! Did check to see if it was the right one since their are two applications for the year/model I have. Will be inquiring as to if there are other HC options available from the local Napa. Small town so its the only parts supply around for 50+ miles. Well, there is one 20 miles away but it is NAPA too.
Sooo...I'm on my way in to work today when I noticed that familiar smell of antifreeze in the cab. I just replaced my heater core back in December and two thoughts run through my mind, "I just replaced that thing" and since I'm still 15 miles from work, "Lord, I hope I make the rest of the way into work without any problems". I glanced at the temperature gauge and it was still within the "normal" range, high end of it but holding steady. Arrived into the station to find antifreeze dripping from the passenger side undercarriage and condensation on the inside of windshield. No leaks on floorboard or from heater core connections under hood. So, when I had some down time between running calls I bypassed the heater core, filled radiator with water and ran engine to operating temperature. Everything seems to be ok. Now when I get off work Friday and get home that HC is going back to NAPA!!!
Is there any place to buy a (new) copper/brass heater core any longer?? I don't want to have to change these things on the same schedule I change my oil.
Floorpan
I did this repair about a month ago, I think I FINALLY figured out how to post pictures... Here goes nothing!

Man, I'm glad I won't have to go through this crap (floor & rocker replacement), I found a really
nice cab in a JY a few months ago and took it home for $175. I lucked out, it's pretty rare to
find nice sheet metal of this vintage in Colorado....
About the picture posting stuff, yeah, one way to do it is as Anafiel offered, copy and paste
the IMG stuff.

I did that whole flor repair in a day, wasnt even a long day's work, without air tools.I know its not show quality by any means but it should hold up well enough. You wouldnt believe how much quieter it is in the cab now. I've been trying off and on to add to my gallery but uploads wouldn go... then I saw Ctubutis' post that the galleries are read only and new stuff goes to albums. I got some exhaust pics to upload but couldnt get these to. I finally did the photbucket thing like everyone suggested and it seems to work.
Yeah, picture uploading to FTE seems to be a problem at the moment, there's a fair amount
of grumbling going on in the Mods forum but the admins tell us they're investigating.
I just found out last night I may have been misled by the admins about the galleries being
read-only, so that statement I made earlier shouldn't be treated as gospel.
On that note, I created a brand-new gallery under my username, it appeared I had
successfully uploaded pictures to it, but the pictures aren't there.
Paying members trying to attach pix directly to posts sometimes works, sometimes
doesn't. *sigh*
The photobucket (or some external hosting provider) route seems to be the most reliable
option right now.
I have never welded a single thing in my life, doing what you did would take me a week and
it'd look like sh33t.......

Thats why they make carpet and floormats! I'm reminded of a trim carpentry saying, "Caulk and paint will make is what aint"
I have to do that repair on my truck as well. Only difference is that it is on the driver's side. I temp. fixed the sound problem by just throwing some extra dynamat I had lying around at it. Looking forward to actually fixing it though. I have to take a pretty big step over into the cab to get up in.
I am also curious about the old brass heater cores. I believe mine will be needing replacement soon, and don't want to have to be doing it constantly.

Yeah, I've got a couple of holes in my driver's side floor too. Nothing really extreme, but they're holes nonetheless.
Shifting gears for a moment, I changed my oil today and found that I've got a major oil leak somewhere. I drained the oil, and only about a quart and a half came out. I change my oil every three months almost religiously, and in three months' time, I somehow lost a three and a half quarts, even though over the past three months, I've added a quart twice a month. I don't think I'm burning it, there's absolutely no smoke from my exhaust or coming from under the hood (that I can tell). I'm thinking it's a bad oil pan gasket, as my oil pan is covered in oil, even though I had it replaced about six months ago. Perhaps a bad valve cover gasket. Or maybe something else. Only way I can think of to tell where it's coming from is to clean the engine and find the leak. So that's my project for the week.
Oh, on a lighter note, I added a bottle of Sea Foam to my gas tank, so hopefully she'll be a little cleaner on the inside.
