Made a junk yard run yesterday. This is what I scored. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...28/newdash.jpg. This is what it looks like now. http://i1087.photobucket.com/albums/...primeddash.jpg, also replaced a visor. The old one hung down so far it blocked my vision. I'll post a pic after I get it finished.

Getting ready to start painting so I went to the car wash and gave the engine a good cleaning, a can of engine brite degreaser and a pocket full of quarters, better to do it now before new paint. I will take a lot of before and after pics & try to post them. Next is to remove the bed topper, that may be a PITA to do by myself, oh well I will figure something. I am glad warmer weather got here.

well since i just picked up my 81 i was taking off the carb to rebuild it. bought all the tune up parts... forgot to buy therm/gasket for it.... greased up the emergency brake they were stuck engaged. and i have to decipher all the wiring now to see how i get some tail/stop/turn/hazard lights working... fml always wiring with me....

i made a custom air intake filter case.. since it came with a jalopy dinky little are filter that was old and crusted.... no to bad if you ask me. charging up the batt and greased all door hinges and moving parts.

i washed the crap out of it... it had all kind of dirty and mud and just nasty from sitting in the woods for a long time. ive found 13 bee hives ...

Wow, that's a nice looking dash!

I actually drove my truck today. Usually it's just to and from the dump or Lowe's or wherever, but I did 120 miles round trip this afternoon, and half of that was with 600 pounds of water in the back. She complained on some of the long hills, but all in all, did pretty good. I'll be excited to fill her up soon so I can calculate my milage for the first time since setting the timing, idle and mixture. Hoping for better than the 8mpg I've been getting.

Also, I'm only about 95 miles from hitting a quarter of a million old the old girl.

Replaced the fuel pump not too long back and just go to drive the truck again this sunday. It doesn't run out of fuel now, but there are a still bubbles going into the filter when not idling, sucking air in somewhere I suppose. It seems like it lost a bit of top end power. It shouldn't be the carb.. Perhaps the higher suction of the fuel pump is pulling a lot of air when I step on it.

I bought some new fuel line to replace the rubber sections, hopefully that will fix it.

I've got A/C, but it will still be a rather intensive job, seeing as it's not factory and shares only a blower switch with the heater. Still not sure how 1 switch can operate 2 seperate blower motors......

Today I scored a factory tailgate from a friend....for free

It's got a little rust here and there, but it's solid and matches my truck sort of. It's tan and brown, instead of brown and tan.

Also last week I re-set my idle speed as close to stock spec as I could get it, and my truck does seem to run better. Doesn't stumble near as much and it seems to have a little better throttle response. Probably cuz it's not loading up from a low idle. lol
