"Best" is many things to many people.
What are your driving habits?
How much do you care about rotor life?
Water/mud an issue?
Semi metallics were the thing, but ceramic pads are getting better every day.
Less scoring and dust than metal.
Far better wet performance than organic
Daily driving, light on the brakes. Water/mud not an issue, no salt. Truck has 232K with the original Motorcraft rotors still.... I'd like them to last a fairly long time.
I have had excellent luck with Wagner Thermo Quiet ceramic pads. My buddy Jason Hambrick bought house brand ceramic pads and changed them every other month along with a rotor or two. I tow and haul all the time. I get excellent wear out of the Wagners. I am not saying this as someone that has never wore out a set of certain brand pads either.
The consensus a few of us have had is that the factory pads last longer than anything though.
FSB has a similar thread function sort of like this. However, theirs will select similar threads when you are posting a new thread. This is for people asking questions that have been asked 10,000 times. Sometimes the admins will get on you for asking the over popular questions and tell you to use the search function.
My issue with that is : At what point does the board change from an inter active discussion forum and simply become a library?
I like to see new people with problems that need to be solved come along every now and again. I like having discussions and reading posts from my friends here. So I don't use the search very often. Also a person has to read through a dozen lengthy threads before they decide if there was anything useful in it or not. Sometimes I post a thread and someone will chime in saying " this thread deals with your problem and it is excellent!" and posts a link to it.

I agree. Sometimes the newbie questions can be fun and allow for some new ideas to emerge instead of the same old tricks.
Adjusted my headlights down four turns the other day. Finally tested it out tonight after work think I need to try adjusting the lights up one turn. They are fine the way they are but trying to get the maximum range for low beam but still maintain highbeam on the road and not up in the trees like they were.
Rusty - The E-code Hellas are the way to go then? You can tell a big difference?
With the E code housings by Hella, and the Silver Star Ultras, they are way better. But the thing is though they are a little hard to get used to. You see the same amount like you would with regular bulbs but with the crisp cut off you have the illusion that you're viewing distance is shortened when in fact it is actually further.
I just need to fine tune my up/down alignment till I am able to do it the right way and measure down and set it right at 25 feet.
Since I turned them down though I can actually see the road way better than before. They were set too high to begin with and I could see farther than I do now but my highbeam was useless. I have it set 4 turns down on both sides but I am going to turn it up one turn and try it tomorrow after work to see how 3 turns down looks. If I can get away with it I will try 2 turns down and see where my highbeam starts to shine way too high then back it down one turn.
I've used E-code headlights several times - as early as 1978 on an XS-11. And, I've lived abroad as well as have driven a bunch in Europe so am familiar with the sharp cutoff, so I understand the feeling that you have less rather than more light.

Yep, when I first put them on I just felt like something wasnt right. I could barely see the light on the road but I was lighting up street signs like I had high beams on. Now with the adjustment I have now I am lighting up the road but no more than probably 10 to 15 feet infront of me rough estimate but the street signs dont even have any hint of glow. I think I have them set too low as the right side is upswept to light up the signs some what and they are not doing that.
But I wasnt impressed with them at first but with the adjustments Ive made I have to say I am, once I get the adjustments finalized I think I will be very happy with them.
The upsweep on the right should light up street signs and pedestrians quite well. Sounds like you may not only have them low but too far right where the upsweep doesn't hit the signs.

I dont think they are set too far to the right. They were illuminating the street signs fine before I tilted the lights down. I just think I over estimated how many turns it would take to bring the lights down. I see the street signs light up slightly at the very bottom when I hit one bump so I am thinking I am set way too low. I am seriously contemplating turning the adjustment screw back in two turns and just have them set two turns out from the orignal setting.

I bought Wagner shoes when I replaced my hub seal.
The pivot doubler snapped off within a day.
I welded it back on because I was not going to deal with finding a ride to CarQuest to warranty them.
Took pictures and showed them to the owner.
Within a week I hear ting-a-ling in my OTHER brake drum.
Not buying any more Wagner anything.
I have had good luck with Akebono(?) ceramic on other vehicles.
I'm interested to see if the Severe Duty Motorcraft pads eat my rotors.
I haven't really been here in a few weeks since I'm putting more money into my Ranger.
However today at the junkyard, I stumbled across a score that I couldn't even believe. I'm at the counter, and I can see a set of the factory dual shock towers that I've been searching for on the floor in front of me. I asked the cashier what the deal was, and he told me that a guy had called for them a month ago, but never came to get them. I asked him if he wanted to sell them, and when he said $30 for the pair, I didn't even hesitate. I didn't have to touch a single tool, or rivet. They already did the hard work for me. It's like it was meant to be.
Out of curiosity, what are y'alls thoughts about the new "Similar Threads" stuff at the bottom of the page?...
When searching threads -- on occasion -- I have found that helpful. Usually it's been when I'm not quite using the right search term. Not to say that's a reason to keep it.

I loved the amount of light the e-code Hellas put out on my Samurai but you're right, the cut-off line is almost unsettling at first. I adjusted for the high beams and "lived" with the dark area above the cut-off on low beam. If did more night driving, I'd have set of those for the pickup on The List.
As for what I did today with my truck, I found a new use for Rusty. The grandtwins are staying with us and love to play in Rusty, but heretofore it has been in the cab. Today they graduated to the bed.
